Rear-end is STILL leaking after taking it back 3 different times!

Well I took it to a reputable mechanic today and they checked it out. First off, let me say that I love student discounts.

They fixed it and said that the shop that replaced the yoke used a new seal, but tried to put silicone on the seal. They said that's a big They also said that the yoke looks good, is brand new, and that they used the wrong type of fluid and I can never go back to Synthetic without a complete overhaul. Oh well, they said if it leaks again to bring it back. In the mean time, they said to park in a different spot overnight and check for leaks to make sure it's good.

glad to hear that they fixed it for you and you can take it back if it leaks again... they used silicone on the seal

The fill it back up with synthetic mobile1/redline/royal purple with friction modifier. It takes like 3 1/2 quarts or 2 pints but add he friction modifier first.

which is it theres a big difference. I am putting cobra brakes on the rear of my car and must drain and do this. trying to figure out how much.

4 oz of friction modifier and 3.75 pints of gear oil, or until full. You want the level to be just below the fill hole.

I don't understand this part. are they saying the LS will fail or something or you seals will fail? your gears and bearings are not going to care if if you run synthetic fluid. There is no way you would need a complete overhaul. i would clarify what they are talking about on this one.

I have a hard time buying what they are telling you.

strories like this are why I have a hard time letting anyone touch my car. pay someone way to much an hour and they still don't know WTF they are doing. Putting slilicone sealer on a seal. that is retarded. Not that I have never made a mistake it is just seems crazy to pay someone to make mistakes.

just buy three quarts of royal purple 75-140 and you will use a bit over two. I like the royal purple because the modifier is already in it. no chattering issues or anything.

The reason is because the 80W-90 oil and the Synthetic oil do not mix well and the gears will still have the old oil on them.

hmm I have switch over cars before. wonder If I got lucky or this is bs?

I still don't think this would make gears fail. I have switched cars over before and have yet to drop a rear end. then again I pulled the cover and there would have only been a minute about of the 80-90 left.
