Rear end question... Need help asap

My buddy has a 92 camaro, yes i kno this is a mustang forum, but all rear ends are basically the same. He really needs to change his rear axel seals, they leak real bad. But.... We took off the rear end cover yesterday and pulled out like locking pin, for the pinion. And we have just the threads.... The smooth part of the locking bolt is still inside. We trying a coat hanger with 2 speaker magnets to pull it out but we couldnt get it. We could spin it in there so we kno its free... but we can't get it out. I was thinking trying one of those plug in magnets with the different tips that they sell at pep boys... but i dunno.. Any suggestions?? Thanks

push the axles in a little bit...might have to use a hammer on the hub...but dont bend the hub or hit a stud. that should push the axle in enough to get that pin out
