After winter i am getting 3.73's and i also want to get the instalation kit that comes with everthing. My question is that all of it seems to add up pretty quickly (axels, gears, t-loc rebuild, instal kits.....) , would it just be worthwhile to get a whole new performance rear end from DTS or someone ?

i plan on needing a beefed up rear end not too far down the road and my car also has 107,000 miles on it, so maybe just replacing it all would be a good idea. Or would it be alot more expensive to do this?

thanks

Unless you plan on drag racing the car, a new set of axles are unnecessary. New clutch packs for the posi can be had for about 45 bucks. I wouldn't buy a whole new performance rear end. This is all a rough estimation:

Gears ~$150
Rebuild/Install kit ~$100
Clutch packs ~$45
Friction modifier ~$5
Gear oil ~$10

Your looking at a cost of about 300 bucks in parts, plus labor, so its going to cost about 500 bucks in and out of the door. I don't think thats a bad price at all.

yeah i guess you got a point. i do drag race though and will eventually need the axles and whatever else.

$500 dollars isn't a bad deal though.

i am getting FMS 3.73's and a ford racing install kit ($100), speedo gear, but where can i get the clutch packs? also what oil is best? is there anything else at all needed? i want to do everything possible that would be worthwhile to do at the same time. I like replacing everthing i can when i got the chance since my car has 107,000 on it.

If you do plan to dragrace often, and pull low 60ft times, then i would reccomend a new posi unit. I would use an auburn pro or eaton. I reccomend the auburn since it has worked great for me. Also get a set of superior 31 spline axles and a girdle. You should be all set for a long while then.

Of course those posi units are expensive. ive heard of people using the differentials out of the f150's, i believe they take 31 spline axles. The stock style differential isnt very good, but its not junk, some people have good luck with it. And it is rebuildable. You can add an extra clutch on each side to help it last..
