ok, we had the stang up today and found out that there is about a inch of movement in the wheel before the shaft moves. What can i do to fix this? Is there any rear end that will interchange with it? btw is mine a 8in or 9?

Are you saying that you can rotated the tire about an inch before the drive shaft starts to rotate? If so, that's not abnormal. There has to be a little play in the gears... an inch on the tire, is a very small amount at the gears.

Are you having a specific problem that has you looking at the gears?

yeah i got a roreing in the rear end can't tell were it is coming from i can turn thr tire a 1 or so before the drive shaft moves i mech. told me that didn't seem right both tires are the same you can turn the drive shaft also be fore the tires move the mech. said there was supost to be a little but not thet much man the gears are costly he didn't know if it was a 8 in or 9 in rear end and if anything would change out ? i am looking for another rear end now i have made a few phone calls.. you guy got any help for me ????

If you turn your tires and they turn (an inch) before the shaft turns...thats not indicative of something being wrong..as my fellow georgian PONYFARM pointed out...

I know That I have some play. Is your car an 8" or a 9"...well....we dont know. I bet dollars to doughnuts it is an 8"...but who knows. The housings are different on the 8s and 9s. if im not mistaken the 9" is more round than the 8. The 9" is much much heavier too!

WHy are you looking for another rearend? A used drum to drum rearend is big bucks. Or are you just looking for a new centersection? Still...big bucks. I would just have it rebuilt. Or have a SHOP inspect it. Gears should be about $175. If you email me, I could probably get them a little cheaper for you (as long as they are FMS gears). I wouldnt advise taking it back to the guy you mentioned in your post though.
