Rear-ended

hey guys, first post here, but i've been a long time lurker. unfortunately I got rear-ended by a 65 year old woman driving a minivan last wednesday.

I'd just spent about 2 months and $1800 on repairs on rebuilding the T5, putting in a new clutch, rear main seal, motor mounts, fuel pump, relay and filter.

I've owned this car for 2 years and I had it fixed for 3 days before she hit me and knocked me into an SUV in front of me. I bruised my lower spine and my right leg muscles are tensed up.

been riding the pain pills for the last week

I don't think the damage is too bad She bent my tailpipes

The adjuster is calling me today though.

how much do you guys think the damage is? new bumper cover.. new hood.. rear bumper... maybe some measuring, straightening out in back.. tail-light lenses... paint. beh.

edit: forgot headlights ... they look a little out of wack.

ouch... with mismatch paint about G'note

id find the cheapest way out tho, turn to the junk yard for a hood and what ever else is available... you figure

new headlights.--- 200 easy
tail lights --- an easy 180
rear bumper --- 214
hood -- anywhere from 300 - to 1200

IMHO, The damage will exceed the book value easily through the eyes of an adjuster. They may try to take the easy route out and try to give the book value to you and call it a total loss. Laws vary from state to state on things such as that so I am not sure. But even if they do, buy it back. In my eyes, a title is only a piece of paper, especially with a light hit as that.

are you crazy? a hood being 300-1200 bucks. its called the junkyard, eBay, classifieds.

if you can try to get a check for whatever you can get from them.(the more the better) and fix what you can yourself.

unless he takes it to a custom bodyshop and has them apraise for him, will cost a little for labor.. but if it has alot of mods it will be worth the extra cash, if its stock ot stock-ish i would waste the time or money

yeah I feel like he's going to total it out. I planned on buying it back.

I'll scream and cry and try to get a good chunk of money out of him.. getting a rental car today and i'll sit on it until i'm happy with the amount... I am also double dipping on medical bills.. it's legal here in OK. calling the doctor and chiropractor today to try to get my pain and suffering settlement up. i was out of work for 2 days on doctors orders.

lost wages, future lost wages, back problems, travel to and from work, etc etc.

that old bitch is gonna pay.

I kind of agree, $200 for headlights, $180 for tails... I can see if your talking buying new, plus installation but who in their right mind would do that? Its always good to look at the high side of things though, so I guess its better then telling the guy he will spend $50 on headlights and $20 on tails...

Oh well, sorry about the accident, and make the old woman pay for whatever you can. Morons shouldnt be driving and when they prove it, they should have to pay!

my price guide was for new stuff, of course i would take the cheap way out and junk yard for all the parts i could get

even new a hood wont cost 1,200 bucks man. not even close to that.

300 to 1200.. are you saying that they dont make a hood that cost 1200 ?

I'd check the brackets behind the headlights. Mine were busted after hitting a deer.

I just talked to the adjustor

If it is totalled i'm getting the value of the car + the $1800 in parts, repairs i've done in the last 2 months to it. I'm also getting medical bills paid, a pain and suffering settlement and lost wages at work.

I've been all over the tulsa/muskogee area of oklahoma, called about 40 junkyards and I've found ONE 5.0 that was stripped out to hell.

OEM part replacements on that car + paint would be more than the book value of the car... getting a salvaged title definitely hurts resell value too.

I don't think i'd sell it though. My dad was killed 5 years ago, and I used the little money I got from the lawsuit to get that car. It's my baby.
