When i did my T5 swap i also changed the rear main seal..ive put about 1900 miles on it since then...recently i broke the ac eliminator bracket when i when i was racing on the high way...that was a week ago...my car started over heating cuz the belt was off( wasn't turning the water pump). It didn't overheat too much...about 3/4 up. Now i see a couple of drops of black oil dripping from the bottom of the bell housing....can it be cuz i overheated and screwed up the rear main seal??? i also grinded my gears (2nd) real bad twice at the track last week...can it be the tranny?? ( when i installed it i flushed the tranny for 3 days with mineral spirits and let it dry for 2 weeks then filled it with royal purple) it shouldn't be black in their no???

maybe you messed up the seal in the tranny from the mineral spirits? idk but i dont think you overheated much, maybe the rear main is just picky, or the crank had a scratch in it

you may be leaking oil form the back of the valve covers, back of the intake or pcv gromet, or maybe all three

well there IS an input shaft seal in there somewhere...otherwise the fluid would always leak from the bell

between the intake and the block, usually. oil doesnt flow between the intake and the heads, only air, fuel, and coolant

first of all, get that synthetic out of your t5 and run atf.

secondly smear your finger in the drip, see if it's oil or trans fluid and then post back.

if it's black, it's oil. Especially since you've JUST changed the trans fluid.

do as mentioned, check for valve cover leaks and rear intake leaks first. You're overheating isn't gonna cause a rear main problem. The only way I can see you having a problem is if you scratched the crank while removing the old seal. If thats the case, rip it all apart and sleave the crank, then install a new seal. (don't use a teflon seal with a sleave if you go that route.)

and get that synthetic out of your t5.

Synchromax® is recommended for manual transmissions that specify automatic transmission fluid, multi-viscosity motor oil or straight-grade motor oil. Expect smoother shifting and longer fluid life. 3 quarts required.
