I'm trying to make a decision whether or not to install a rear seat delete kit in my 1994 GT Conv. For me the rear seat is a waste, but I don't want to make a change if problems have been experienced by others during or after installation. You know, the kind of things that will bug a perfectionist.

Also, any comments concerning different manufacturers would be appreciated.

Only thing that will bug a perfectionist in this case would be poor craftsmanship on the rear seat delete. I've had my seats out, and to be honest they don't weigh much at all. Mine are also cloth V6 seats, but should be fairly close to the cloth GT seats. Just leave the seat in... In the end you might save 20 pounds.

or you can look at it as gaining atleast 3-4 cubic feet of space, or a good excuse to NOT have to lug people around, or an alternative to preserving the condition of your factory seats, if for some reason you decide to sell the car, and want to return to stock. (ie: seat covers up front, rear delete out back)

I'm probably going to do the backseat delete in mine once I get some new seats. I don't like trying to fit 4 adults in a car that really was only meant for 2. lol If i had the delete I could just be like nope sorry I don't have a backseat. Plus it would be a good place to mount a nitrous tank or even subs...

I got that crap alot with some of my friends. I'd meet up with them and we'd decide to go somewhere and everyone will be like "we're goin int the cobra!!" i'm like no guys im not stuffing all four of us in there and they'd just overule me and we'd all shove ourselves in there like we were in a clown car. Since the car is lowered on Sportlines, it made my tires rub and my stock shocks could not handle that kind of weight so it felt like i was riding only on springs. I felt like i was damaging something in the car so later that day i just took out the whole rear seat. It wieghs about 25 pounds; no big deal but things add up. A little here, a little there and it all adds up. I took out the rear seat; didnt put a cover on or anything cuz i dont really care. Took out the rear trunk cover, the jack, spare tire, etc, and the AC so far. So thats 100 pounds for the AC, 25 for the rear seat, and around 25 for the jack and spare. So little by little i saved 150 pounds and thats significant. I say do it.

Thats why my car is stirctly a show/weekend car now. I wont run into the prob of " Hey lets all pile into your car and go somewhere" b/c If theres more then one person then there not going. Id like to get the rear seat delete as well but not sure if I'll do it this yr or not.

I think I would like to delete the rear seats. They are off my car due to a seat belt problem that I have in another thread. I guess If I just did the rear seat delete I wouldnt have to deal with the seatbelt issue hehe.

in a vert it's easy

i just took a big screwdriver and pryed the two hooks on the bottom portion up, that's all that holds the bottom. The correct way would be to press on the maybe 1"x1/8" white buttons (there are 2 equally spaced on the bottom of the bottom portion) then the seat should easily slide out... i think i broke mine.

the top or back portion comes off with two bolts in the bottom corners and the top is just a hook in the center

i didn't want to say anything till i had pics of the completed project... but i plan on relocating the vert motor to the storage compartment that will be on the seat portion and making an interior accessible trunk... it's gonna be cool
estimated completion date: ??? next weekend
