Rebuild or Replace?

So I got a little advice on my painting question, now I have a tranny question. About a year ago I had my tranny rebuilt because of a bad synchro. I couldn't hardly get it into 4th gear. The guy that rebuilt it did a crappy job, because I had trouble right away (stalled out and got stuck in 3rd gear on a TRAIN TRACK, had to push it out of the way). He actually had to rebuild it twice. So now it's a year later and I'm having the same problem, but with 5th gear this time grinding every time I put it in, and a lesser extent reverse. Can't hardly get it into gear and it keeps wanting to slip out. Very embarrassing when I'm cruising down the highway lol. The guy also supposedly replaced the clutch, but I have had tons of squealing from it since then so I don't even know if he did, or perhaps he messed that up too.

What would you guys (and gals) do? Should I get someone else to rebuild it yet again and get another new clutch, or should I just say screw it and try to acquire a new tranny? If new, should I replace it with another T-5 or upgrade? Any other tranny's out there more reliable? Though I've heard the T-5 is a very reliable tranny.

EDIT: Btw, car has 140k miles on it. Had about 125k when I initially had the tranny rebuilt.

Immediately find a new guy to do your work, then check the forums classified's for a new T5. They surface up quite often.

Synchro's on our T5's are prone to destruction, but unless you punish your car on a regular basis, you shouldn't be losing'em like that

I don't really ever punish my car. Honestly I only get it above 2500 rpm once in a few months if that...only when a camaro pulls up at a light and wants to show off ;) So unless I'm a terrible driver and don't know it, I guess the rebuilder just did a bad job.

After the first rebuild, I drove the car 300 miles away from the shop (where I go to school) and that's when I got stranded on the train tracks. Had to start going from 2nd to 4th just to get back to his shop. Turns out he dropped some plastic piece inside the transmission, and just assumed it wouldn't hurt anything to not tell me about it or get it out. So he rebuilt it again and claimed that the first time he accidentally used a rebuild kit that wasn't designed for a world class transmission, so something broke (I can't remember what). On my way out of his shop 5th was grinding a little bit. Since then it's just gotten worse. Oh, and as for the clutch, the guy claimed he put in a new throw out bearing because the old one was going bad (which it was). But mysteriously my clutch squealed even worse AFTER it was "replaced" than before.

Sorry for the rant, this just brought up all sorts of bad memories lol. So you think it's worth sticking with a T-5. I'll keep my eye out for one.

Trust me, I'll never be going back. It was one of those situations where the guy was a friend of a relative who worked at the same shop. They gave me a good deal, but I really didn't get anything in return but headache.

I know the feeling, had my trans done by a milwaukee shop and I'm having problems continuously. They even rebuilt it a second time because it broke so fast. Now it is still broke but drive able just can't down shift into 2nd unloaded. So if you live in Milwaukee don't go to Badger Trans.
