rebuilding AOD

You will need at least the master rebuild kit, new bands, possibly the thrust washer kit, and if the items listed are complete greek, a transmission mechanic.

If you're still in, get the Haynes manual on Ford Automatic Transmissions. Read the AOD section 3 times, take your time, place your parts out in order, and don't disassemble the valvebody unless you are absolutely certain you must in order to fix something.

Oh yeah... a new filter and around 12 quarts of tranny fluid.

I rebuilt my C4 myself with a kit thats supposed to make it take 700 ft-lb & 800 hp.

It wasnt all that complicated to do and was almost fun actually. Its basicly a process of disassembly, replace, and reassemble.

I followed the factory shop manual.

My peice of advice would be to invest in a LARGE supply of ziplock backs and a sharpie. Place all the components in its own bag and label them as what the manual calls them so you can find them when you reassemble it.

I had a small workbench that I was working on and my main workbench which is about (10 X 3 feet) covered with bags. Its amazing how many parts are crammed into that little space.
