I was just wondering since I hve time besides carb cleaner what can I use to let my carb soak overnite in so I can make sure that everything is clean. I remember reading a few yrs ago in carcraft or hotrod mag (Idont remember which) that they let it sit in some sort of toilet bowl cleaner? does anybody remember this? if not what is a good solution to let the carb soak in? this is my dads ride and I just wanna make sure tht I do it right for him thanks guys!

You can buy gallon sized cans of carb cleaner to soak the parts in. These usually include a basket to set them down into the cleaner. You also need an air compressor with a blow gun to blow out the passages. After that, I blow em out more with spray carb cleaner before reassembling the carb.

Tell your bud to go to www.rangerpowersports.com That, and other V8 Ranger sites will get him started. Swap mostly uses Fox body Mustang parts and mounts. I've had a V8 in mine for 6 years now, but not the 331 anylonger. Got my "spare" 5.0 in there now and it's my daily driver. I used 85-93 Fox Stang convertable mounts, home built trans cross member, 65-66 Shelby Stang Tri-Y headers, Toploader 4 speed. 88 Crown Vic front acessories ( P/S & Alternator) There are a hundred different ways to V8 a Ranger. Simplest is the 98-up using a V8 Explorer or Mountaineer as a donor. Everything is a bolt in/plug in there. The gallon carb cleaner uses a carb cleaner solution, what it consists of, I can't tell you. Nasty **** though. But washes off with warm water.

I've rebuilt several carbs and clean them using Brake Kleen (there are lots of brands and names but all are pretty much the same) and an air hose to clean all the passages. One thing is for sure WEAR SAFETY GLASSES! I've gotten Brake Kleen in my eye once and it is not pleasant! Since then I don't even think about using the "squint method" of eye protection. I like Brake Kleen because it cleans very well, and it evaporates completely, leaving no residue at all.

There is some kind of carb cleaner stuff they sell in a pail at autozone. It is brutal stuff so avoid letting your skin come in contact with it. IT works really well, but I might would try that brake cleaner since the stuff at autozone is very environmentally unfriendly.
