I guess it was in bad shape to start with and my drone was pretty bad. All we did was replace the tailpipe hack job (2.5" but with chrome 3 or 3.5" tips) with proper flowmaster 2.5" tails, fixed the leaks by welding on new studs for the h-pipe, etc...

Well when I started it up, the sound was reduced, I'd say by 35% and the drone @ 2100rpm reduced by AT LEAST 40%... I'm pretty happy about this, my car now sounds like the classic 5.0 with flowbastards Also I can hear the supercharger now, before it wasn't very prominent. I get to tell people my powersteering pump is making funny sounds hehe...

Thanks for letting me rant

Wow that much of a reduction in drone from going back to stock 2.5" tails? I suppose a 3.5" tip that was long enough would kind of act like a "boom tube" so that makes sense.

yup and I guess the leaking exhaust caused some extra harmonic vibrations

I just hated the look too, so ricey looking (in my opinion).

Yeah those bulge pipes are lame. I've also read that if you run different length flow tubes into the mufflers it can reduce drone. Apparently Ford looked into it and supposedly the stock mufflers were actually different lengths for this reason, but it's been about 10 years since i even saw stock 5.0 mufflers so i don't know if that's true or not.

Those tails remind me of all the fullsize trucks I see with exhaust straight out the back, never liked the look myself.
