Registration (insuring) and inspection questions.

ok, heres the deal. i have alot of work to do on my car. to get it driveable again ill have to put my heads and cam in it (i still have to buy the cam). i want to do the work at my primary residence (staten island NY) but the car is in Pt. Pleasant NJ. My pops has AAA plus, which will tow it up to 100 miles, the trip is only 50-51. heres the problem. the car needs to be registered, which i will do for april or may, i dont mind that. But does the car have to be inspected in order to get insured? i only want to register it so i can tow it to my primary house. would i be able to register it, tow it to my house then after the work is done get it inspected? whats the situation with all this stuff? as long as i can get the car in NY i dont mind about the inspection. its just getting out of nj. please help

I just went through this the other week. When you register it, you get a temporary 10 day inspection thing. So basically you have 10 days to get it inspected. After that, you would have to re-register it or drive it straight to the inspection place and hope you dont get pulled over and it passes.
