removal of the egr valve. what will it do

i know little about the egr system. i heard if i remove it, i will have pinging at part throttle. is that true and why does it do that. i also heard it helps on gas mileage and power a little if removed. so i am confused, will it help or hurt. and what about the computer. if it won't ping or anything listen to this idea.i unbolt the 2, 10 mm bolts from the intake and make 2 block off plates. one for the intake and one to block the egr from leaking exhaust. then keep all connections hooked up like wires and hoses. so then if it doesn't work i can just bolt it back easily. would this cause a code if i did it like that. i searched

its more trouble than its worth unless you have alot of items like heads/intake/cam and a tune to set it so you dont have any issues. alot of 5.0 guys delete it with out issue though.

is it defeating the purpose of a cold air intake by warming it back up with exhaust gasses

id actually like to know this too? cuz if you dont need it im going to delete it once i put the thunderbird sc setup on my car
