remove shock towers in my perfect 68 fastback or no?

So I have this straight--you currently have three 67-68 fastbacks, one is nice J Code, one a GT S Code, one a C code? If you are that attached to the J Code and it is that nice, keep it with bolt ons. Go crazy on the C code. Sell the S code. I have the same emotional attachment (or emotional problem...) with my 69--just can't bring myself to cut the towers out. Just my $0.02.

I would rather sell both the 67's and buy a 66. I really regret selling my old gt350 clone and want to get another.

I kept the shock towers on my coupe but it was a pain in d but!! If i had it back it would have the Heidts set up. My 69 FB is in real good shape and it will get it for sure have it. Here is a pic ,its a lot farther along now. :nice: The intercoolers are hidden in the fenderwells.

is that pic a 69? are the fenderwells bigger than a 67-68? oh and....MORE PICS!!!!!!

also what were your hp goals, and what size turbo's did you go with

67-70 are identical. in fact the only difference between the 65-66 and later cars is the towers themselves, dimensionally everything else is the same.

Its your car, you should do what you want.

If you cut em' out, remove the shock towers by drilling out the spot welds. Then paint any exposed metal on the towers and store them in a nice dry place. Then you could put the original towers back on the car 20 years from now.

The only handling reason to cut the front shock towers is to do a Grigg's setup, IMHO. It is arguably or not-so-arguably the best handling option for front suspension - improves the stock geometry greatly by removing shock towers. Don't do it to put a mod motor in unless you just want to say "I have a mod motor."

Then again, if I had a '67-68 fastback, no way would I trash that investment. Go with TCP or RRS or similar, don't cut anything, and call it a day. My humble opinion.

the griggs setup is over 6k isnt it?

My coupe was in an accident before I purchased it, and the drivers side tower was tweaked, and infact it cracked near the frame rails. I made the decision to keep the towers and repair them. I'm afraid I might not be able to reverse it if I removed them, and I wouldn't be happy with any suspension setups. I even thought about swapping a 4.6 DOHC into the car eventually, but even then, I'd still be able to keep the shock towers.

Agree with NasaGT.Your car. Don't worry about resale or anyhting if you don't want to get rid of it. Everybody is so afraid to cut up a mustang, Don't lemme get my hands on a Shelby. First thing I'd do it put a cage in it. AND WELD IT in. Then take it out for what it was meant.

From one 68 Jcode to another, don't cut it up! The diffence in the suspension components that you are contemplating are minimal at best. Also, if you are building that much HP, you are looking for straight line performance more than corner carving handling. I agree with others, the hobby is better served if you find another car to cut up given the pure condition of your car. That would be a no regrets decision.
