removed stock screen on new CAI, ok?

I just installed the new Steeds CAI on my cobra and the install does not
use the factory screen between the mass air meter and the filter. I talked
to someone at Steeda and they said it does not get reinstalled. My question is I have heard of increased hp gains with the screen removed but the car
leans out on the top end. ( ex: new issue of MMaFF removed screen on a
Mach1 and gained hp but leaned out on top end, went from 12:1 to 13:1 ).
Has any one ran into this problem and do you think I am safe? By the
way, that Steeda CAI rocks.

Removing the screen will lean out the A/F some. The screan is there to provide smooth flow across the MAF. I have the same setup on my GT. You should be ok. I don't think the leaning is that much, although thew cobras with a blower may be different.

don't worry about it. You can do tons of bolt on's while n/a w/o worrying about a/f. I doubt you'll see any HP though. It really just increases air flow a tiny amount.

The screen isnt like super small mesh or anything, so your really not opening up all that much area. I took mine out with the BBK piece but I didnt notice a thing. A/f on the dyno didnt really change either. I dont have an honest comparison though. The dyno was done after my l/t install.

As Dr. Woo noted though, the removal of the screen will tend to lean 'er out. I just tossed my C&L MAF in the box last weekend in favor of the OEM MAF for this reason. I was already quite lean with my SCT chip. At first, it seemed as if I had lost some power (going back to the OEM MAF), but between driving it yesterday and today, it has obviously adjusted or something and now I don't feel as if I've lost anything. I'm smiling again!

That's all well and good, but I'm not n/a. 04' cobra I need someone
with a 03-04 cobra who has done the same mod to respond. I do appreciate
the feedback though. I'm thinking if the rep from Steeda said it was ok
I assume they tested it and it is ok.

don't worry about it, it's a non-issue.

I generally trust Steeda! Keep in mind, they sell Steeda Mustangs with blowers right from Steeda and I am sure that have the CAI with the screen removed.
