ok so heres the deal i am a lurker here who might have a shot at getting a stang.. one of my friends wants to trade me his 90gt. now i like the cleanliness of the lx but beggers can be choosers.. the cars in real good shape the paints just faded and well i work for a body shop so you get the picture lol. but my question is besides the lx bumpers what else will i need as im not familiar with fox's because ive never worked one em.. and my other question is when i remove the skirts are there going to be holes in the rockers?

it's fairly common for those GT ground effects to be hiding some serious rot, depending on what area of the country you live in and how well the car was taken care of... check it out before you buy, just a heads up!

you will need the LX body moldings and the fender extensions.

pm me if you decide you want a set of fender extensions

Personally I'd leave it alone, the GT look will grow on you. I used to really prefer an LX too, but now I have a GT and have had a couple other GT's too. When done right and clean, a GT is very sexy.

But if you really gotta do it...

Swap the bumpers front and rear, and remove all the ground effects. the sideskirts are fastened under the rockers with phillips screws and then slipped into brackets beneath the door and on both sides of the doors. vertical brackets on the ends and horizontal ones at the moldings. the brackets themselves are riveted in so they will have to be drilled out and the holes filled. once you get all that off you can also peel off the door moldings and then install a new, complete set of LX moldings. the groove in the LX molding is more narrow than the GT version, and its obvious when placed side by side. other than that the stock GT "cheesegrater" taillights can be swapped with an LX set, and to me the GT wing looks good on an LX so you can leave that in place. Then you have to swap out the front fender extensions which fill the gap between the bumper and the wheel well with some LX units - the 87-90 are different than the 91-93 with the latter making a slightly larger wheel opening for the accomodation of 16 inch wheels in 91. If you intend on running bigger wheels/tires, go for that later set. The last thing to address is the tailipipes. GT pipes hang lower and turn down at the end, LX are straight out and hug the body more.

Good luck, get some pics of that car on here! And regardless of if you leave it a GT or clone an LX, get the car! You won't regret it!

Yeah, I wouldn''t waste my time removing the GT stuff. Just fix it up, sell it then buy an LX.

When i bought my gt last yr...i fell in love with it....the gt is my favorite body style....u could always change it out for a cervini's body kit..which the front bumper would look rediculous...im swapping mine out at some point along with there hood.....but good luck with whatever you do....i would leave it a gt..keep it that way for a while and if u dont like it change it out...good luck man....

That car does not look too bad. The only parts of the GTs I don't like are the rear and the closed front grille. That is the reason I got an LX instead of a GT. I thought about putting the front & side ground effects on mine years ago, but didn't want the rear bumper. Then Ford went and "fixed" it with the 93 Cobra rear bumper and tail lights. If I ever got a GT it would have a Cobra rear bumper, front Cobra grille & either Cobra or LX tail lights. But I do like the GT hatch better, I have one on my LX right now.
