Removing the nut on top of the strut

Im in the middle of installing my ebiach sportlines, and kyb shocks/ struts. The back went fine. I have the strut out of the car, but cant get the nut off of the top of it. I've tried my impact gun and it just spins inside. I tried a wrench and holding the strut with a screwdriver on top. I need ideas, its starting to get dark and I need to atleast one side back together!!! Thanks.

Anyone? I know people have changed their front struts before, how do you get the nut off the top so I can put the plate on my new strut?

If its garbage, then just use pair of vice grips

What do I put the vice grips on? The mounting plate gets in the way of the shaft.

that tool is just a gimic...its not needed, an impact gun will take it right off(if theres weight on it) so take that nut off first then take the two lower bolts out

Yeah Ill take the nut off first on the other side, which will have to wait until tommorow. Only thing left is the passanger side. All new shocks, struts, springs and front brake lines. The old lines were horible.
