Replace smog pump cannister?

Let me get this out of the way first: if you don't need one where you live I am very happy for you.

Does anyone know if the cannister should be replaced after so many miles? Are there any elements inside that clog or corrode over time? My modded Mustang passed the smog test with 280k on the odo last year and I guess if there was a problem they would've found it. I've been going 50Resto crazy lately. This is the latest victim on my "what else should I replace while the car is down" list?

The canister is packed with activated charcoal. If it gets full of liquid gasoline from overflow of the fuel tank vent it should be replaced. If not, leave it alone if the case isn't cracked or damaged.
