Hey,

I'm putting on P&P heads with stage 2 cams in 2 weeks and trying to get all the parts I need.

My question is:

Do I need to replace the timing chains when I do the install?

By the way, my car is a 99GT with 20k on it.

Any advice would be appreciated.

One last thing. does Torque To Yield mean it can only be torqued down once? I need to know if I need to buy a new crank pulley bolt.

Thanks,
Jason

It's not absolutely necessary to replace the chains, but in my case with 40K on my '00 I needed new tensioner arms, so we replaced the tensioners, arms and chains.

Yes, you should replace the pulley bolt - it is TTY. That means it stretches slightly when it's torqued to the proper spec, and should be replaced.

You may already know this, but you'll also need a front timing cover gasket, header gaskets should be replaced, upper and lower intake gaskets, valve cover gaskets, head gaskets and head bolts. You will also need cam sprockets, spacers and bolts. The 99 & 00 are press on camshaft sprockets.

You're actually looking at around $400-500 in additional parts to do the job right.

Also, when you order the heads, you may want to make sure you get Windsor heads so you won't need new covers. The covers can run anywhere from $250-300 if you use the Romeo heads on your car.
