I've drained and filled engine coolant before.
I have a 2003 GT. I checked Alldata on the procedure on flushing the coolant. . . . . . .The 6 cylinder, Mach 1 and Cobra were straight forward on filling the new coolant. . ... simply pour it into the overflow container.
But the GT (4.6L, 2V) . . . that surprised me. Here's what it said:
- Remove the thermostat.
- Disconnect the heater core coolant supply hose from the fitting at the rear of the manifold.
- Add the coolant/water mixture through the thermostat opening until coolant appears at the heater core coolant supply outlet fitting at the rear of the manifold.
- Install the heater hose, using an appropriately sized worm style clamp in place of the constant tension clamp.
- Reinstall the thermostat gasket (O-ring) and the thermostat.
- Add the correct engine coolant mixture to the degas bottle until the coolant level is between the "COOLANT FILL LEVEL" marks and replace the pressure cap.
Has anyone ever done it this way on a GT? I would think they deviate from the simple "pour it in" routine for a reason.
