I'm in the process of replacing my intake gaskets and I think I'm losing my mind over how clean I need to get the surfaces. I'm working with razor blades and acetone and I've been at it for hours, how do I know when it's good to reinstall? Right now they feel smooth to the touch but I'm worried about the water ports being rough on both the head and intake side. My plan with that is to smear rtv on both the head and intake before putting down the gaskets to try to even out the rough spots.
This is my first time taking on such a job and I'm starting to feel a little overwhelmed. I can't imagine doing all this and having a leak again or even worse a bigger leak. Not to mention I realized I installed the thermostat backwards in the housing last night so I have to redo that today in addition to more cleaning. The joys of a fox body though I guess!
