How do you replace the pick-up in the dizzy? I did a search but everyone says to replace the dizzy but I dont wanna spend 100 bucks and find out the pick-up isnt my problem?

It's actually quite easy. You need to drive the roll pine out of the gear and pull the gear off of the shaft of the dizzy. After that, everything pretty much just slides out which gives you access to remove the stator.

Installation is a bit more tricky, as you need to align the hole in the gear with the shaft for the roll pin to fit properly.

access to a press makes it alot better. on the dizzys ive messed with, the gears like to get STUCK pretty good on the shaft. you may need a press to get it off.

as for the pin. when putting it back in, MAkE SURE you get it on right, the hold in the gear and shaft ARE NOT in the center of the shaft, they are offset slightly.

I used a bearing splitter and screw-on puller and it barely got the gear off (with an air gun). Some people hammer them off, etc. Good luck with that idea.

This is for a SN95 but it should help you bud.

PIP replacement how-to

All it took for me was a 3 prong puller and it came off like butter.

I used one of those and the shaft crushed and split three ways!

I've done it with a giant slide hammer and a table vise, the gear is pressed on pretty damn good. I destroyed a couple of practice dizzys... so use plenty of lube on anything that moves or is going to move. I pressed the gear on with a socket and a hammer; luckily I lined up the roll pin hole on the first try.

The only reason that I built one instead of getting a reman is because the remans has the same PIP that came with it, they just cleaned everything up! :nonono:
