Ok, I'm starting work on a '70 fastback, and I want to know which way to go with it. It would be real cool to have original grabber blue paint, black interior, 15 inch magnum 500's, and all the other original stock goodies.
OR, lowered, ground effects, torq thrust 16's or 17's, loud stereo, tinted windows, body mods, etc.

Either way is exciting to think about, but which is the better road to take??

I almost went new skool with my car, fiber glass and neons..... yuck glad I didnt do that, I like Old skool alot better, fat tires and a huge engine. But i also have a loud sterio so. any thing is good except the neons, dont go there.

Just do what ever you want, thats what makes old cars so great.

what about a sleeper? stock body and wheels, but a built windsor, nitrous injection, not to mention some nice 12 inch subs hidden behind the rear fold down seat. would some 16 inch torq thrust 2's give it away?

I like all types of Mustangs but I tend to lean towards a retomod that looks period on the outside and sports all the goodies and upgrades in a hidden manner. My current project is going to have the 60s styling inside and out but it also has 4 wheel discs, EFI, T-5, electric windows and doorlocks, and all kinds of other high tech gizmos that are conealed beneath the skin. I basically want a car an up to date Shelby. I love the old look but like the way these cars drive when updated....but you need to do what makes you happiest and fits your budget. The Mustang was designed as a personally customizable vehicle so build the car you want not the car you think that everyone else will like.

I am mixing the two looks with my '65 coupe. The exterior will look pretty much the same with the exception of ground effects from Mustangs Plus and a set of TTII's. The paint will be black. All of the inside interior will be straight out of a standard '65 coupe. It will be two-toned black and white. All white seats, inner door panels, and dash. The carpet will be black, along with the dash pad, outter door panel, headliner and dash pad.

All of the suspenions has been upgraded, Wilwood disc brakes on all 4 corners, torque boxes, subframes, etc. I also have a Tremec TKO II and a Currie 9" rear with a Detroit Tru-Trac and 3.73's. I will be dropping a built 351 into the engine bay.

later,

Chris

This is really a personal preference and a decision that only you can make. go with what makes you happy and with what YOU want to do.
Thats the bottom line. If you are in doubt as to what makes you happy (as it sounds you may be), then use this as a criterion...

Does it make the car:
  • Ride better
  • Go faster
  • Stop faster
  • Handle better
  • Safer
  • More enjoyable
If the answer to any of those is a yes and you are not sure about what you "like" then I say do it. The one thing that cannot be qualified it the aesthetics. I fiberglass hood will help on a few of those points listed above but you might not like the looks, thats where it gets to be your decision.

Good luck and keep us all posted, with lots of pictures! You'll find there's a wealth of info on these pages. :flag:

I prefer a combo of the two.

FI, with my 67 I'm leaving the body completely stock-looking, but I'm updgrading the suspension, along with Baer 4 wheel discs and 17x8" TT II's.

Once that is done, I'll focus on the engine, trans, and rearend. Lately I've been entertaining the idea of a Paxton S/C.

I guess I want the best of both worlds: classic looks with a slightly agressive, modern edge...and a modern drivetrain.

no eleanor here. When I proposed that idea to my roommate (also a ford guy) a few months ago, I thought he'd kill me just for thinking it. I've come to my senses now. However, it will be hard to put gray and black paint schemes aside because there's no denying they simply make the 'stang look downright mean (no matter how much it's used). I always thought a dark cranberry metallic with a black stripe(s) would look pretty awesome. I'd try to get some pictures up, if I was a little more computer literate.

looks like a 347 is more muscle than a 289.

But why do people here have to try and flame each other? Very disappointing

The 347 is more new tech. And who's flaming anyone?

And what if we agree to disagree on the 347, the T-5 surely qualifies as restomod tech doesn't it?

Thats what i plan to do with my first project. I want it to look completely stock maybe even primer black (you all know that's my favorite) and have a 427 tucked away under the hood. Hidden dvd/stereo. I want really cool stuff like the XXX car. Lol, just not pimp my ride style!

Your best bet would be to browse these forums and see what peaks YOUR interest (even if it is Elenore style). These forums provide enough variance of the Mustang to give you some good ideas or spark new ones. Everyone's opinion will be different and since YOU have to own it/drive it you better make sure you are happy with it. I will advise that when you find something you think you like think about a while before you buy it (or start modifying your car). You would be surprised at how many times your vision will change (unless you are doing a stock resto). Also, think about how each piece will fit with other pieces you are considering. Many people buy a part (say a hood for example) and once it is on they realize it doesn't match the rest of the theme of the vehicle.
My choice was to leave enough of overall resto look while moderizing the bits I wanted too.

For power windows check http://www.a1electric.com/catalog/cat_ford.htm Best price I found and easy as pie to do. Almost a simple bolt in.
