isn't a 347 a stroked 302? That is oldskool. Newscool would be a 302 and NO2.

Yeah, it is a stroked 302, I guess my feeling that it was newer tech was based on the idea that 347 stroker motors are a new development using the old engine block. Thats splitting hairs though.

Hey, what does a 351 stroke to? is it 390? That's the number that comes to mind, anyway. How much power would I gain with a stroker assuming the rest was the same (just for comparison sake). My goal is to squeeze the max horsepower out of my 351 windsor block (but staying reasonably safe on the motor) without cutting anything like the hood or firewalls. By the way, I like the way you think with the hidden stereo stuff to make it look stock. My roommate is doing that with his '61 Galexy and that's what I was gonna go for too. The '70 I have was also equipped with a conveinient plastice door that hides the trunk from the front of the car, I can't wait to tuck away some major bass back there!

I just remembered this suggestion from my electronically genius roommate. Since my cigarette lighter is currently broken anyway, how cool would it be to hook up a small nitrous kit to that push button and modify it to say "Light'er Up!" Is that bad@$$, or a little too "honda"?

A 351 will stroke up to at least 427.....and Nitrous is for fools will little engines and small.............

You can go Big Block in that 70 without cutting the shock towers. Then you don't need no steenckin nitrous.

it would work, my cigi lighter was busted as well so i replaced it with another windshield wiper switch (took some spacers to fit right), and i have it hooked up to my electric fuel pump. i've had guys at shops looking around for 20 minutes for the fuel cutoff and not being able to find it.

i sayake it look bone stock or very slighly modded (wheels, tires, tinted windows, etc) but drag it right to the razor's edge performance wise. go as modern as you want to go with the engine, suspension, brakes transmission, rearend, exhaust as long is it isn't too loud, ignition, fuel system, etc. same with the interior, again make it look stock or slightly modded but with lots of hidden or stealthy appearing mods, like power windows that use the stock window crank as the switch (one of my personal favorites) more modern seats but covered in factory looking upholstery, modern guages that aren't obvious unless you're looking for them, hidden switches in the console or the cig lighter another good place on 69/70's is right above the stereo on the bottom side of the dash pad you can hide 3 or 4 rocker switches there and nobody will ever know. i like the intermittent wipers from 70's ford trucks the switch fits in the factory location with very minor mods to the stem on the switch. be creative in hiding stuff and nobody will be the wiser. kind of the best of both worlds although you won't really fool anyone who knows these cars if you are good and can make your mods so they aren't obvious you can definately slide by under the radar

I like the way you think, nickel. how do those power windows work with the crank, i am confused. (sounds cool though). I think I may have mislead some of you, though. I am still in college so my budget is, uh, minimal. I have only about 3 grand to spend this summer, so things like the $250 power window kits wouldn't be impossible. However, a stroked, bored, and supercharged 700 HP motor with hidden toggle switches is in the distant future (hopefully). I probably won't do any engine work this summer since 3000 isn't enough to cover it, and why go half @$$ on something if you're gonna re-do it later anyway. I like all these ideas. Would some 16 inch torq thrust 2's be subtle enough? Do you have any clever ways to hide a CD player? Are there any suspension ideas within my budget that I just can't pass up? I still have so many questions, but you guys are all great. I'm just a beginner, and i'm lovin' it so far. If someone can tell me how to get some pictures up, I would try to post a few. thanks for all the ideas so far. keep 'em comin'!!

i think auto loc is the company that makes them. basically it is a 2 position switch mounted to a shaft that the window crank fits on. move the crank one direction and the window goes up, move it the other way and the window goes down, it's pretty cool. power windows with the stock look of non power

Ive got those pwr window switches, theyre very trick. Im all for combining the 2 looks with no body mods, except maybe bolt ons. I really want the newer seats covered in matching vintage upolstry but theyre $1,500 a pair.. if anyone knows where to find em cheaper please chime in, Ive been looking high and low for them, but I refuse to pay that price. Id like a set in 65 bright red pony upolstry.

I was referring more to his ideas about ground effects, pie-pan wheels, thumpin' stereo, etc. If you read his post you'll see what I mean.

No one knows my stroker or T-5 is there unless they drive it. From appearances its a 289/4 speed car.

I am having a dilemma with the wheels I want. I think some TT 2's would look cool, but not right for a sleeper. I think my best bet would be with some new Magnum 500's in a slightly larger size than the original 14's that are on right now. I can find 15 inchers, as well as 17 and 18 inch, but the 16's are really hard to come by (especcially for a reasonable price.) I think this size would be PERFECT. Just big enough to be noticed, but not stand out. Does anyone know where I should look for some 16's? I've already tried most of the big names in mustang parts as well as Summit and Jeg's. Thanks for any help.

I've looked at Newstalgia, and it's a good company, but too much $$$. I found some magnum 15's on dallas mustang, texas mustang, and year one. you can get a set of four 15x7 or 15x8 wheels, center caps, and lug nuts for $620 to $690. The best part is the free shipping on orders over $300 for each of these companies. I might just break down and get the magnums and spend the leftover $$ I would have spent on torq thrust for a few tanks of gas.

A normally aspirated and carbed V8 with a solid rear axle and ANY transmission is what I thought you meant by old school. Twin turbos or naaaws on a sewing machine motor that turns 8,000 RPMs is new school. Just MHO.

Now I think the original poster was asking more about the outward appearance of his restomod rather than the drivetrain. Speaking personally I don't think the 65-70 Mustangs/Shelbys can be improved upon very much. Maybe a new hood and a chin spoiler, plus perhaps a side scoop or two and thats it. 17 inch rims are fine as long as they have the retro styling of a Bullitt or TT2 or halibrand (454). Just keep the side skirts, rear wings, neon, and dayglo crap on your kids Honduh and you'll be fine. Again, just my humble opinion.
