They actually have a video out there that goes step by step through rebuilding them and I have heard it is a great video and can be done reletively easy. I paid $400 fo my 2nd gear to be fixed and its been a dream ever since!

Its funny, my friend just bought a DD for himself. HCI hatch with a shot, and his first time beating on the car, powershifting 3rd, blew the T5 up. Some people get really unlucky with them, and some get really lucky...

"Shift hard, and carry a weak clutch" thats my motto!

What do you mean by carry a weak clutch? 400 bucks is alot, id rather save up for a gfore or tremec. I think ive been pretty lucky, i beat the crap out of my tranny, only at the track of course, but my car has more then 20 runs powershifting everytime and on slicks, it taken a beating, and its still holding up great, but its slowly dieing.

yeah the tranny needs to come out. . . actually tearing down a t5 is no big deal. Once u have done it once its a breeze
I agree it's easy.. but if you have no or little mechanical experiance.. I wouldn't attempt it. There are a lot of little parts that you can lose and things def go back in order inwhich you can really screw up.

Nick, if you need a rebuilt... Astro Performance is in FL and they do a fuggin' AWESOME job.. And their trannies are cheap! www.astroperformance.com

I just mean if you run a hard clutch you stand a bigger chance of blowing the tranny up. Id rather have the clutch slip or go, then the tranny to go.

Also mine has taken a few years of slicks and power shifts and feels great. It should be replaced but I dont have the funds yet! Same with the stock rear and soon to be stock bottem end!

Mob love your avatar pics!
:Word: I like they way it looks like it about to lift off the floor. I have 4 cyl springs, no sway bar, aluminum heads, no A/C/smog, no fog light bracket, battery in the trunk and my car's front end barely moves launching at 5k on slicks.

Put a set of 90/10 struts up front with 50/50s in the back and your call will look like his. Adjustables if you do a lot of street driving.

Good times mob, now we don't have the same times and mph. :(. At least I have an idea what myn will do with some slicks considering we have roughly the same mods and ran the same times. I clicked an 8.7 off with a 1.905 60' on the all season falkens, so I'm sure some slicks would get me into the upper 1.70s. Great job.

Do you have skinnies? Thats pretty weird you have pretty much the same weight mods as me, and more with the heads, and more mods. In one of the pictures it looks like it got just like a centimeter or 2 of wheel liftage, I think with the heads if I can cut some low 1.7's itll clearly come up. What are your 60's? If think with skinnies youll se it.

Negative on the skinnies. I am thinking about doing a 5 lug swap, so I don't want to buy 4 lug wheels.

No clue on the 60ft times, don't have a real track out here any more and the place I do run at only gives you your ET no 60ft/MPH.

Ah true

mob...try side gapping your plugs...they offer up a tiny bit of HP, easy to do and as you know every little bit helps. I run the AR3924, they come side gapped from autolight. This idea is not new by any means and does work...again it aint much though.

Ive read up about gapping but dont know how to do it. Is it hard? Im not sure what you need to have to measure. But I wo uld do it when I put the gt40p's in.

Turn off the parking lights...they are robbing power :D. :nice:.

You have to run brake lights down the track, I just use my parking lights instead of headlights.

easier IMO to just purchase the AR plugs from summit...but I'm lazy, ideally your cutting the strap back aprox 2mm. Indexing was something else I was looking at, but the idea of purchasing a couple dozen plugs to find 8 that align properly with the optimum angle in the combustion chamber seemed like a pain...especially if the vendor decided not to accept the leftover plugs back. The indexing of the plugs apparently can net some significant results as well.

 haha not sure what all that means, but I have to run explorer plugs for the p heads, not sure if summit will have them, plus I already bought the pplugs for the ehads.

dont they make small shims you can put in to move it around so it indexes right?

What if I told you there was a set of plugs that could give you 5-6 rwhp over any of the ones mentioned...

I forget the name, go figure but my friend who runs NMRA Factory Stock runs them, and on back to back dyno runs saw 5-6 rwhp. Car makes 380 to the tire, but he said if he threw regular ones in it made 37x, then throw those in, 38x, then back to regular and the power dropped back down.

Ill grab the name of them, but be aware, they run $10 a plug!

Not to the average person, but for racers and someone looking to get that extra tiny bit, its only $80... Its something to look into though, even if you choose not to purchase them!
Are you talking about the Brisk racing plugs? If so I had them on my cobra and they work great, you will feel a difference. Im thinking about getting them for my fox now
