I’ve got a 1994 ford mustang gt it idles fine right around 750-800 but when I drive it I have pretty bad rev hang tried a restrictor plate (small side toward the motor) but it only made it run choppier, any advice on what to do?

I should have said it ran rougher not choppier when I did the restrictor plate I see how that could get confused with something else

I take it everything was fine and at some point it started acting up, accurate?
check plugs, look for vacuum leaks

Some what when I first got the car it started to hang rpms only when shifting to 5th then eventually every gear then I deleted the egr and smog but rev hang was still there got a chip that deleted my egr functions but my idle was effected drastically but the rev hang stopped so I put the egr back on and removed the chip and my idle improved but the rev hang came back

First thing that comes to mind is the IAC isnt opening/closing and sealing right and that could be internal to the ECU and may need new capacitors and a tracer rebuild if the electrolyte in the caps ate up the board enough.......

Post up a logfile of it idling or screenshot of the datalog page........I have a feeling your issue maybe TFI module or Halls effect pickup or maybe even TPS related..

When the engine cant count the pips it goes by the default settings in the ECU.

I had a TPS sensor that sort of registered the correct voltage at idle but as you rotated the sensor by driving the numbers got quite erratic for the ECU to understand so the ECU just went by the MAF setting and the BAP setting for spark interpolations and didnt even throw a code..

When idling the TPS should be steady...When you look at my logfile of my TPS you can see the voltage spikes the TPS was throwing to the ECU without even touching the pedal and those spikes were doing a number on my idling....

After changing out the TPS the TPS was just a straight line until I hit the throttle and the idle issues went away...................

Good Luck
