*** Rigamaroles progress thread ***

Ok, took up the last of the parts. Which I have to say....I figured with the good comments I've seen about 50resto on here, I would have expected better, but hey. I bought a couple hundred bucks worth of parts, and spent even more on shipping. They didnt tell me that if I paid the extra couple bucks for express (even though I asked about it), that I would save myself customs brokerage fees which more than doubled the cost of each shipment. And to boot, they left out a bushing on my door hinge repair kit, and are shipping it regular class, despite them knowing my car is supposed to be finished next week.

Moving on...Rust is gone! Well, most of it. Theres still the area in the trunk hes got to fix but thats it. The whole ass end should be primered before the end of tonight, with the jambs painted by Monday. The subframes are being sent away to get powdercoated and possibly installed this weekend or early next week.

More pictures!

After the last update the guys there told me to swing by on Monday as the first bit if paint should be laid by then. So after work today, I went over to the shop to check out the progress, and I was happily surprised. Here she is as of today.

They even sent away my Subframes and got them powdercoated for me! :nice: Only one side on so far.

When we first talked about the car, he was going to spray the top part of the bay the same Gray, and then when I yanked the motor I would spray everything underneath that black. Well, he got confused and did the whole thing Black. They pretty much did the engine bay work for free, so I don't care, and I told him not to worry about it. Its not all black, but everything on the sides of the motor and half the firewall is. Its better than being all Blue!

Was very exciting to actually see the color on parts of the car. Way too cool. Helps you actually realise the transformation.

So they are putting the first coat of paint on the body tonight. The car will be painted, assembled, wet sanded and polished, new tint and 100% complete by the end of the week.

Thanks guys. I appreciate the kind words. The only real regret I have with this car is that I wish I had've had enough coin to be able to get a small cowl hood with it as well. Should still look great, but thats about it.

Other than that, this car is just a plain jane notch. It probably wasnt worth putting in even half of what I spent to restore it, but I couldn't part with it. Next step will be Painting the rest of the bay/motor, and then getting all new interior.

Being that its plain jane, I wouldn't mind adding some creature comforts to it to ensure I never get bored. So over the next couple of years I hope to convert it from manual to power windows and locks, and then add A/C. Lots of stuff, I guess. The list of things a fox body guy needs is never long enough, so I'll just go one step at a time. haha.

I do appreciate all the kind comments though, thank you.

Yeah, the downside is that I don't have a nice place to park it. I live in a complex so it will be sitting outside all the time. I'm looking for a really nice car cover I can throw on it at night. I should have more pictures of the car today. I'll post up when I get off work.

Well, just got off work and went over to the bodyshop. Was super cool to see my formerly blue car being gray for the first time. They still have some stuff to do, but they think it will be done by Friday. Last I talked to one of the guys he still has to fix the rust in the trunk and then rockguard it, put on the other subframe, paint all the trim black again, etc.

It looks good, but I'm not real happy with the fitment of the fenders up front. It's still not straight, but they said it might be better once all the wheels are on and everything is together. The drivers fender still sticks out farther than the passengers. I'm really not happy that they painted the underside of the hood black. I dont care about the bay, but I dont like the underside of the hood being black, too.

Anyways, after its all together I'll take it up with them if it doesnt look right or if I'm not happy. Right now, I'm not. But hopefully that will change. I think they are also getting tired of the project because its taken them longer than I think they thought it would. Thats why I think they went to a lower quality paint and sprayed it black instead of gray...to save them money.

Anyways, heres the pictures, it looks good, love the color, theres quite a bit of orange peel but most if it should go away after the wetsand.

Rigs i think she's looking gooodddd!!!!!!!!!!

Personally the next fox i get, i'm going to paint the bay, under the hood, doors, and all jambs black. Then lay color on the outside. I don't know why but i like that look.. 91TT's car was like that (sureshot)

Its not that I think it looks bad, I would have just liked to have given some input. If its my car, and I'm the guy paying for all the work...why wouldnt you just call me when its time to do something you're not sure of. Makes sense to me.

It may grow on me, I would have liked it to be gray, but it doesnt look bad.

Thanks though, coupe. :nice:

When do you get married, man?

Hey I completely 100% agree with you. They should have picked up the phone and gave you a call before making a fairly large decision to paint something another color like that. You are perfectly entitled to making them change it the way YOU want it because you are the one putting your hard earned coin down for what you want! :nice:

I'm getting married March 27th 2009!!! :)

I was talking to wifey last night and we seem to be in good shape $ wise, so she gave me the OK to get a Fox project

Yeah, the hard part about me telling them that I'd like it changed is that I'm kind of disadvantaged that way. They are the ones cutting me a deal, not the other way around. They've also done extra little things that add up in cost and time that don't impact the bottom line for me. So I dont want to piss them off or seem unappreciative. I just have to see it assembled to really figure out how I feel.

Spring wedding, hey? Any particular reason you chose that specific day? As far as the fox is concerned, thats awesome. Any ideas on what you will be looking for?

Thats awesome, dude.

Rigs--That's great that it's painted. Any orange peel you are worried about will be gone after they wetsand and rub it. With the underside of the hood black, it won't look too bad, because the bay is black and plus, more than half is covered with the hood liner. If you are running a hood liner, and still aren't happy with the black...just ask them if they can cut in the underside of the hood grey...just in the areas you see when the hood liner is installed. I do that with most of the Mustangs I do. It saves, time, paint, and money. It only takes a couple of strokes to cover those areas.
