right timing

simple...first get a flashlight and look at your harmonic balancer, (you may have to slightly turn the motor over by hitting the key a few times to get it to where you can see it properly)

there will be numbers, i think like 30-0-30. looking at the balancer from the front of car find the numbers on the right side of 0 (0---10---20---30). get some chalk or white out and put a line thru the number at which you would like your timing to be set. ex. 14*

on the passenger fender well close to the mass air meter will be a spout connector, a little grey square plugin...remove it.

hook timing light up to battery (pos.-neg.) and hook other clip from timing light to the #1 plug wire

loosen clamp on distributor

start car

point the timing light at the balancer, from a place in which you have clear view of the balancer, i can see mine best if looking by the upper radiator hose. hold the trigger on timing light. the light will flash quickly and you will see a small metal "pointer". grab your distributor on the cap and slighty twist it clockwise until your white mark is lined up with the pointer.

tighten clamp. shut car off

plug in spout

you should be good to go...you may have to adjust your idle accordingly

Above post pretty much nails it....When your shooting the timing light...line your scribe mark with the very TOP of the timing tab...If yours is somewhat clean you can see the word TIME right there...

On this pic, your stocker should look like this...(minus the blown out rubber of course) notice the bottom says ATC..then lines to 0..then 10..20..30..then BTC...you wanna mark the 10 on the BTC side...this is the side your shooting for...

Good luck... Oh ya, make sure the car is warmed up when you set the timing...dont set the timing on a cold motor...

you guys got it right on. ill add one thing that happens to me cuz im retarded. be sure to recheck the timing after you tighten the hold down clamp. mine likes to walk a degree or two as i tighten it.

good luck.

also, i used some whiteout and put it on 10* (stock setting) and 14*. i have back at 10* cause i have a tweecer to set it for me but the whiteout stayed for a long time. i found my best to be 15* (i can put it up to 18* with 87 with no pinging at all) and have kept it there.
