Rim size and Offset help please

Looking at some 17x8 99 Cobra rims. What tires can I fit on those and what offset am I looking for. What does the offset affect? What offset are the stock Pony's?

Sorry for the dumb ass question but I have never done anything more that stock wheels on any of my Mustangs

There is only one offset and backspacing for those rims, so you don't really have a choice.


WHat 5-lug conversion you going to run?

I was going to go with the 50resto kit. I know that the center caps will not fit without midifying them but I can't spend 1000 bucks right now just to accomodate these wheels. The other bummer is that the 99 Cobra is 17x8 and I want to run a drag radial which is only offered in 275/40 17 (BFG and MT are the only 2 I have researched so far). 275 is too wide for an 8 inch rim.

You can put a 275 on an 8" wheel. but it will bulge a bit.

Also, the rear wheels may seem a little sucked in if you run the 5-lug drum out back, so a 275 may rub the quad shocks or inner fenders in which you will have to massage them or flip the quads
