ok i got a 96gt and i got two sets of rims. the 17" and the 16" rims. i want to get some dr but i dont know what rim to put them on. i got the 16 for winter cause they have a bigger side wall. but the 17s are bigger diameter so wouldnt that make me run a little slower. if this makes since to u please repley.

The '16's would be your best bet. Not necessarily because of the additional weight of the '17" rim, but because the 16"-wheel will allow for a taller sidewall and more wrinkle when shocked hard off the line. It will give you a little more leeway before breaking the tires loose, as a result.

all that being said, regardless of the diameter, I'd still go with whichever wheel was the widest of the two which would give you the biggest foot-print.

I'll use Mickey Thompson ET Street Radials as an example since those are the one's I'llbe getting as soon as they arn't on B.O.

Lets say you go with a 16" M/T- a 255/50/R16 is the only size 16 they offer.

1st off you'll need a 10" wide wheel.

Approx weight-28# Sidewall width-10.3" Tread width-9.7" Overall Dia.-26.0.

Now if you go with a 17" M/T- a 275/40/R17 is the only size 17 they offer

For this tire you will need a 9" wide wheel.

Approx weight-28# Sidewall width-11.0" Tread width-10.2 Overall Dia.-26.0.

I'm not sure what the difference in weight is between a 16x10" wheel and a 17x9", buit I'm sure it's got to be pretty close, I'm no math wiz.

If they are close, then I'd say this ones a no brainer!
