Ring And Pinion

I got the oil changed the other day on my 99 stang vert and the dealer said that my steering was loose and i needed a new ring and pinion set. He said he could get it remanufactured for $210 plus $165 for labor. Is there any way to check whether he is just b.s.-ing me. Also, i would rather get the set myself, which would you guys recommend?

umm ring and pinion in your steering?? i think you mean Rack and Pinion..
