is there really any difference between the two sizes when it comes to performance? fyi: 331, vortech 7#@ manifold, intercooler, trickflow street heat, 80mm mass, 75mm t/b, afr 165, 42#ers, frrp headers, o/r h, 1.6 roller rockers, b 303 cam.
just curious.....

Yes, you get more lift from the same cam. This means the valve open further which increases flow.

I read an article in CarCraft where they compared 1.6 and 1.7 rockers with a stock cam and heads. The 1.7s had better dyno numbers than the 1.6s. BUT, the best numbers were had when they installed 1.6s on the intake valves and 1.7s on the exhaust valves. They said this was due to the exhaust valves being smaller and thus needed the extra flow to vent the spent fumes more efficiently. Since no manufacturers sell mixed sets it is best to go with 1.7s.

i kinda goes along with the cam you have. having the b303, i would first get rid of that seeing as how that is a NA cam and you have a vortech.

speeking of vortech, how do you have an intercooler, i would love to see pics.

Aren't the b303 and E303 blower friendly cams? If not, what specifficaly do you look for in a blower cam?

Most off the shelf blower cams have a wider LSA (ie. >112*). This allows for less overlap of the intake and exhaust valves. So, there is less loss of boost through blowby.

no the b and x cams are NA cams while the e and f cams are more blower oriented.

i got the b cam used for $50 on ebay; that's a big reason i went with it. plus my car is a daily driver and i wasn't too sure about the e and f cams being street friendly. i'm sure one of these days i'll swap the cam out for something better and get a retune.
prokiller: as for the pic of the intercooler; i'll have to wait on that as i am not in the country at the moment. when i get back i'll dig up some install pics i took and i'll take afew more for good measure. i bought the vortech used on ebay cheap(sense a theme here?) from a part time nascar truck series driver who wanted to build his own race car for the knowledge and his own enjoyment. he chose a 95 gt as his ride. built a blown motor, had fun with it, decided to try an n/a motor and sold me the kit. he had all the fab work for the intercooler done at some race shop in cali (well known but i forgot the name). sorry for the rambling post.... i'm tired and alittle sick at the moment

e and f cams are very street friendly. the f is a bit more aggressive than the e but completely streetable.

I'll hold you to that what vortech is it?

Just throwing it out there, even though my hate for alphabet cams is known...

the f-cam will be the friendliest.. its LSA of 114 will play nice with the stock ECU and you'll hold plenty of vacuum. The F-cam is boost friendly and widely loved by the guys over at turbomustangs.com.

I have 1.7's in my stock GT and it seems like it gives it a little more power. I ddidnt know about the 1.6 intake and 1.7 exhaust thing. I might have to try that out one day.

the vortech is a v-2 if i remember right (haven't been home to see my car for quite some time). it isn't an sq...... i love the wine. i did a quick look on ebay and found some f cams listing for $75 used. but i think i'm going to wait for a bit. when i get home i want to start upgrading brakes and suspension parts. what are some reasons for disliking the alphabet cams?

on a side note..... anyone have experience w ssbc brake kits?

EDIT: forgot to mention it's an s trim blower

Yeah I'd love to see some... it gets hot as balls down here in Louisiana... I'd love to be able to drop the incoming air a bit without running meth.

well, i got lucky. i found a few photos of the install of the vortech and intercooler on a thumbdrive i have with me..... give me a minute or two to figure out how to post EDIT: as promised prokiller images....

i know.... stock intake.... but it has since been replaced





so what do ya think?

Do you still have this car? who routed your intercooler pipes. i'm having clearance with the tire issues with mine and is causing problems. please advise, and if anyone else knows who can do this let me know. thanks.
