ok, installed pushrods, took the car out, motor died, had to toe it home. finally pull the valve covers off and every rocker is loose, and I mean like, falling off loose. wtf me= :owned:

now, this is how I put them on. I rotated the motor so that the lifter I was doing the pushrod of was off the lift when I took off the rockers. when I reinstalled them I went finger tight and then turned the bolt 1/4 turn. after I did all of them I jumped the selonoid and turned the motor over a few times. checked to see that all the rockers were still tight and thet the pushrods could be turned with my fingers. some how I thought this was the right way, apparently I was wrong.

so I consulted the haynes manual.

according to them I am supposed to hook up a leakdown tester and tighten the rockers until the gauge looses pressure then back off just so it tightens back up.

who the HELL does it like THIS :bang: :damnit:

and I am still like ...................wtf

are they stock heads with stock replacement rockers? if so, just tighten them down to torque spec and forget about it. dont worry about hand cranking the motor over. if they are aftermarket heads than i cant really help since it sounds like you did them correctly. were they set to zero lash before you tightened them 1/4 turn. when you are tightening the rocker spin the pushrod and when you cant turn it anymore by hand that is zero lash....now turn it 1/4 turn. i think that is how you do it correctly but i could be wrong

everything is stock on the heads

how you explaned it in the second half of your post is how I did it

I went to the haynes to look for "torq spec" and what I listed above with the leakdown tester and all is what it told me

should I try some locktite?

go ahead and loctite them. when my buddy put my rockers on he didnt even use a torque wrench. he used a speed handle and once we got the intake and valve covers off the old rockers were off and the new ones were on in like 10 minutes. they have been on for over a year and i havent had a single problem. are they 1.6 or 1.7 rockers? maybe your lifters are collapsed and are causing the problem
