Hey folks, I'm planning on putting in a rollbar/cage into my car next year, but I have some questions

Whats the difference between 8, 12 and 14 point bars/cages? I know there's more mounting points, but where are these points? Do they limit visability or helmet room? Any reasons why I should/shouldn't get a higher point cage? I still drive the car on the street sometimes, but it's mainly my auto-x/road track/drag strip car

Any info is much appreciated!

8 Point or 10 point is most likely going to do what you want it to do. The 8 point has the door bars you have to climb over to get in the car. Then the 10 point has the added bars that run along the top of the doors near the headliner with a bar that runs above the windshield where your sunvisors are now.

Heres a couple pictures. The first pic is a 10 point and the second is an 8 point.

Unless you have a drag car that is running 9 second passes, it's not necessary to get anything higher than an 8 point IMO

With an 8 point you can get a swingout kit for the door bars so you don't have to climb over them all the time. nice option if you still drive the car on the road. With a 10 point cage I belive you cannot have swingouts to pass tech inspection.

Thanks for the info guys, looks like I'll be browsing around for a 8 point bar, I really would like the swingout door bars

Any recommendations on a pre-built (ie, just weld in, no fabrication required) 8 point bar?

doesnt kenny brown make a 6 or 8 point that has the bars by the door run down low, like below your seat almost but still mounts in the same place as if you had to crawl over it?

Yes, but that is not legal in many sanctioned racing associations. The NHRA requires that the door bars must run midway between your shoulder and elbow when you are seated in the car.

The Wolfe Racecraft versions are low slung, and say that they are legal.. they arent swing out door bars however, so maybe thats the difference.

Low slung door bars with swingouts are legal, yes. Low slung door bars have a kink in them that makes them a few inches lower than straight style bars. Its just the door bars that run parallel to the ground that aren't legal.
