hey guys some of you know that im picking up my t top lx this weekend and i have some questions on stucture and support. I plan on putting roll bars in this car, i already have them actually, they are sittin in my garage against the wall still. But someone mentioned in my other thread that i should not use swingouts, well this car will mostly be a street car with the occasional track time. Now i plan on using full length subframes connectors also. My question is, willl the car be that bad with swingout roll bars even if i have the full length subs? I dont want to interfere alot with the ease of gettin in and enjoying the car, thats why also planning on making the bar that goes from the side of the hoop to the other side of the hoop quick connectable. And on that bar will be the harnesses, so the only time that bar will be in the car is when im at the track. Also, where exactly are the rivets that hold the t bar to the body of the car, how hard are they to get to, cuz i would like to have my welder touch that area up fo extra strength. Thanks guys

what kind of power do you plan on making? I have a t-top with SFC's and it is very stable. Unless your making some serious power, you dont really need a roll cage. But if you do use one, swing out bars should be fine because you said the car will be used on the street.

id go with thru the floor subframes. ive got full length ones underneath and my floor pan is ripping.
of course thats after a few 5K launches with slicks.

don't do it will like like crap if you want to put a rollbar buy a non t-top car and abuse it.these cars are meant to be enjoyed and theres nothing worse then to see monkey bars underneath t-top glass looks hideous.

its only gonna be a 6 point, there will not be anything under the glass. So i think it would look fine. also the engine is a 347 stroker with nitrous . Its an auto car, so that will help with the chassis flex to some degree,.

wow serious power ,becareful i really don't like to see that much power with a glass roof.i saw a pic one time of an 87 gt t-top dragstrip car i think it was an 8 second car.what a waste because these cars are heavier and why do this to a t-top car it's not like he was going to take the tops off:rolleyes: to enjoy the fresh air.

87 T Top Gt. MM 6 pt. roll bar w/ removable door bars. I do have subframe connectors. Put in the bar and it is night and day. Back seat is still good for kids.

There was a guy at the track with a 1200 rwhp TTop 4 eye. Yellow with nice graphics, Drag Radial Twin Turbo car. He takes the tops off and cruises all the time I hear... will run 8s, doesnt mean he doesnt enjoy it.

In the newwst issue of 5.0 they put a really sweet cage with low bars and a removable rear bar to allow rear passengers in a TTop LX.

thats exactly what i want to do. My friend has a 60's coupe that he did that too,and its awesome he puts the bar in for shows and when he races but on the street its great to have he back seat acces also. I have a competetion engineering kit, and it has long back bars so i can put the back bars in the hatch, i dont want them to go into the plastics.

yeah ,he enjoys it for all 8 seconds and 1200 rwhp. how far is he going to go with this car besides the trailer ramp and the track what a waste.

haha why are you so raw about it man? i have an 86 t-top car that I would like to see a 600 hp 408 stroker in someday, and i plan on driving the piss out of it, so its gonna need a cage. Ill still drive it to work on Fridays, no biggie. :D

i am not against horsepower i just feel that a t-top car is like owning a convertible ,and nothing like going down the highway on a nice sunny day just enjoying the open air.when you get crazy with horsepower with a car like this you really can't enjoy they way these cars were meant to be driven .600 horsepower with a lower gear you should still be alright.

My car is "capable" of low 12s and its a vert with a 150 shot. I still enjoy it as my DD and I plan on a 6 pt in the future.

my gt will go 12's easily in a couple months, I used to go 12's with keiths engine, now its going to be alot more zesty, in the looks and haul ass dept, also frame dept, its going to be one big weld after im done lol, it might weigh 7k when done, but dam will it be strong!!! lol :nice:

oh yeah when u coming down?
