I brought this up a while ago but has there been ANY indication that the new Mustang vert will have those popup roll bars? If not, are there any aftermarket roll bars that look half-decent and more importantly don't compromise rear seating? Thanks.

I dont think the convertible will come with a roll bar in it(im assuming u mean the light bar like in the saleen's) I also do not believe that the part companies have recieved verts to make parts for yet so it is not likely that anything will be avalable upon release of the coupes. You might have to wait till the verts are out to get that kind of thing.

My understanding is that the Saleen light bar isn't even functional--that it's just for looks. I was talking about the popup bars in most Euro verts. Are there any conventional rollbars for the SN95 that are fully functional and don't compromise rear seating?

From what I have read, roll bars (or their equivalent) will be required on convertibles by 2007 (fed roll-over protection requirements). Since that will be only 1 1/2 years away for the new Mustang convertible by the time it rolls out the assembly line, I would be surprised that a totally new design like the Mustang convertible would not have factored such a requirement in from the start.

I mean, it would seem quite odd to me, that Ford would leave itself open to having to do a major change to the convertible design just 1 1/2 years after introduction.

I really hope so.
I have an Autopower rollbar in my 2000 GT vert, since I really don't think the windshield frame is going to help jack squat in any kind of rollover.
Yes, the light bar is just for looks, what a piece of cr*p putting something like that on, maybe even some people think it helps protect them? Ford should be ashamed.
Otherwise the Mustang seems like a safe, heavy car, compared to most little verts out there...

I just realized I was a bit off. I just doubled checked, and it is 2007 calendar year, not model year. So, in terms of model years, the roll-over protection requirement will probably not affect convertibles until the 2008 model year.

Do you have a link to that info? Thanks!
