Does anyone make an nhra approved roll cage (6 point) for 1989 gt that requires little or no welding. I dont mind welding it to the car inside, I just dont want to have to weld the tube ends/joints? Thanks. Post pics please if you have them.

All roll bars/cages have to be welded in for safety and a six point i think is legal, i know very few guys that run anything less than 8 points in there car and you have to use lap belts(harness) as well...You won't pass tech with the stock seatbelts in with a rollbar/cage

Personally, having installed several roll bars and seeing the difference in how stiff it makes the car I wouldn't consider using a bolt in. My car is a vert and I'd bet I could put the top down and LIFT the car using the main bar. After I did my 6pt you could remove one of the front jack stands and it would sit on three stands with no flex. If safety is what you're looking for or if you're fast enough to require a bar I'd weld it. Mike

Maximum Motorsport makes a Legal 6 point for NHRA that is bolt in, Ive got one
The only thing to weld is the rear down tubes to the Main hoop

They bolt at that point too, but nhra wants them welded to be legal

There are many companies that sell cages. I bought the JEGS 8-point. But i doubt you find any that require little or no welding and still be legal in any racing org.

I'm not trying to hi-jack, but I've been thinking of getting a roll bar (8 point) or cage (10 point) put in my 91 GT, but the car will be mainly street driven. I mainly want it for safety in case I flip the car or something. That story about the Mustang owner pushing that import off the road really got me thinking and i'm not just worried about that, but just if I wreck it, I don't wanna get smashed. Would a 10 point cage look totally gawdy or stupid in a street-driven car? Anyone have any pics of 8 or 10 points in a fox stang?

Ive seen 8pts that look great. and some that just get in the way. It really depends on the installer. Id try to find someone who will take the time($$$) to fit the cage through the dash board, make sure they fit the bars as close to the roof line as possible, and definitely consider swing out side bars. It all comes down to the $$$$

I really do not want the cage to go through the dash or anything like that, so if it has to, then I will just get a less point that doesn't. This car isn't a hardcore drag car and I really don't like the idea of a big cage going through the dash. That being said, i've seen around where people have gotten nice cages relatively cheap...100-300 bucks plus an install if you can't do it yourself. Guess i'll have to check around locally when the time comes. Thanks

Just make sure the installer guarantees the bar to pass tech, anyone who can weld can put a bar/cage in, if the installer cant tell you what the rules call for(you should know this too) then how can he build a suitable cage.

Buddy of mine paid $2000.00 for a 8 point road race from a guy who did out of the back of his welding shop.
Unbelievable carnage, took a saws-all to the dash vents, burned the headliner(he was asked if he wanted out, and said no)gouged the door panels, and the roll cage wouldnt pass tech. 3 different guys fron different types of racing all failed the bar(incomplete welds)
Remember, its your ass on the line.
