i just bought a ford racing cam with Duration: 220°/220° @ .050''
Lift: .498''/.498'' it is going into my brand new 308 c.i. and i need some suggestions for what kind of valvetrain setup to run. i am looking for that low and mid range torque

get a set of comp cams pro magnum roller rockers. stick with the 1.6 ratio. i would run 1.94in/1.60ex valves(if you have stock heads you can only run a 1.50ex valve). use the valve springs that ford recommends

I second rbohm. If you can, go with the 7/16 stud because they're a little more stable.

I bought a set that looks just like the magnum roller tip in either 1.6 or 1.7, rail or non rail for 65.00 off ebay. RPM warehouse or something like that. Rockers are actually made by CAT industries.

how did you like them.

And i will probably be using stock 302 heads that i will probably have port matched and might switch out the valves. how can i get the most horsepower out of stock heads. New ones are too expensive, for a 17 year old.

Pedestal rockers may be required on your stock heads, depending on the heads. What are they? That's a roller cam ("E" cam) you bought, right? Got roller lifters? If you have to go pedestal rockers, use the Crane Energizers as they are cheap and of reasonable quality. Your block and, maybe, heads have prolly been decked, so you need to determine the correct pushrod length. Stockers may be too long now.

I dont have the roller lifters yet what would you recomend? how do i know if i have to do pedistal rockers?

If you have a roller cam block, just use stock lifters and spider. If you want an upgrade, the Crane and Comp stock replacement lifters would be fine. I'm using the stock style from Eaton.

I've never run pedestal rockers, but they were standard on many Ford heads. You can run them by a machine shop and ask, or someone else can help out. You may have to start a new thread with the question in the header if you want an answer here.

Pedestal stuff came out in the late 70s?

I tore apart a 255 that was an E0SE (1980) and it was essentially a 289 combustion chamber with the smallest ports I have ever seen and pedestal mount rocker arms.

So anything with a E for the first letter would be a pedestal, and if its a roller motor it probably has the generic E7TE heads.

The crane gold ones are bascially the 93 cobra rocker arms and can be had cheap on EBAY.

I think you are think of the Crane Energizer 1.7 ratio rockers that were on the early Cobra. I have not heard of the Gold series rockers being on a factory motor.
