Roller rockers and valve springs?

85 gt's where the first year for roller cams,86 gt's where the first year for fuel injected roller cams.I personally have crane cams 1.7RR's on my 86 gt and fit great, all you have to do is remove the oil baffle on the pass side fill hole, which just unbolts with like a 1/4" socket. If i was in your position just like i was about 3 years ago,i would put 1.6RR's on it and later do a cam swap. The 1.7's are too much of a hassle unless you want more cam lift from the rockers, but you have to refigure every cam that you think your gonna buy,and hope that you have enough piston to valve clearence. If you want more info, let me know id be more then happy to help.

If I'm planning on running the stock cam and have no immediate desire to purchase an aftermarket camshaft, should I go with the 1.7's?

Well i thought the same thing, see you have the mindset that says im not gonna change anything else in a while. But lets say in a year on the same car you wanna do a cam swap,no big deal right,Well kinda. You have to remind yourself that you have 1.7RR's,that alone will change valve lift by about .030.Even though you say your not doing a cam soon I would put 1.6RR's on there.
And Yes I know for the same amount of money you can get more valve lift, but its nothing your gonna feel in the seat of your pants.Stick with the 1.6 rollers, then call me when you wanna install a cam.I just did a cam swap in my 89 notch. And it was by far the easiast in the world.I didnt even take off the lower intake.:D
