Rotors and pads for 5 lug upgrade

Hey guys, I'm collecting my parts to finish my 5 lug upgrade. I know I want new rotors and pads, but what do I pick? I'm doing the 10.8" 99 gt/v6 route...I'm thinking the brembo's that LMR carries with hawk pads? Or should I just go with whatever autozone has? I do plan to do some autocross next year if that has any impact on what I should pick...

I quit using autozone pads. IMO they are very poor quality. I have been buying NAPA brake pads and have been happy with them.

Ok ebc, ssbc, hawk? in combination with the brembos? And this might sound stupid...but them don't come in pairs right, the $55 brembo's at LMR are probably singles right...

Rotors come single. Pads are pair.

Brembo blanks and Ford OEM pads FTW.

I've had the best luck with OEM pads. They dust very little and are quiet and performance is pretty good for an OEM pad. Hawks sometimes dust a lot and are noisy. I have Hawks on my rear brakes and i clean my rear wheels about 3X as much as the fronts and they squeak when creeping in traffic.

I couldn't be happier with the Wagner Ceramic pads on Hack Job. They were 44 for a pair of fronts and 44 for a pair of rears. They leave the wheels 99% brake dust free. I went through two tanks of city driving gas and I had almost NO brake dust!! They stop great and of course are quiet. I am switching my Raybestos pads on my Cobra over to Ceramic Wagners in the spring FTW!!!

I got front pads from advance....

they SUCK!!!!!!!!

On my first 100 miles on blue balls I had a huge amount of dust on the front

I'm 250 miles in on the pads and they have the wheels looking dirty. Very unhappy with the extreme amount of brake dust buildup..

They weren't even the cheap pads i paid like 55 bucks for the pair

Ok, well I won an ebay auction for 2 front's with "good pads" for 56 shipped...but I realized only after I won that "there was a slight modification to fit a certain wheel at one point but will not affect performance". What might they have done to make a wheel fit and is that bad for me?

wearever golds, or beck/arnely? we just switched from bendix to beck/arneley (sp) and i dont think the beck/arnely ones are as good as bendix.

Not a fan of slotted? Do you know if the Brembos have a rust resistant coating (zinc washed)?

I know you weren't asking me but IMO anything other than blanks looks showy unless your driving a supercar. I'm also interested in whether or not the Brembo's have a rust resistant coating, I'd rather them not go rusty on me right away like my stupid drums did...and anyone who knows where to get those Wagner pads or at least the model number would be greatly appreciated.

I'm actually running cross drilled rotors on my car now (stock 4 lug), and I have to say I noticed a significant reduction in brake fade, if nothing else. Before the cross drilled rotors, my brakes would get hot and stopping was out of the question.

Through my research, though, I hear that slotted is the way to go. Drilled rotors are supposed to have reliability issues, though mine have had none in 3 or 4 years of driving.

I'm in the midst of gathering parts for a Cobra brake swap, so that's why I'm curious about the Brembos.

And I think slotted rotors look sweet.

IMHO Blank rotors are the only way to go. In fact, where I autocross strictly forbids aftermarket drilled and slotted rotors (factory Z06 rotors are different story)

Slotted rotors are really only good for wiping brake dust off the face of the rotor. If you use low-dust pads, there is no point at all then. Drilled rotors are pointless too. They offer no cooling, in fact they make things worse by REMOVING mass from the rotor. The drilled holes are for release of gases during braking with aggressive race-type pads. Most street pads do not release gases...so again..no reason.

I'm all for drilled rotors for bling bling since the majority of "car people" seem to think drilling holes in a rotor makes you stop faster.

I have drilled rotors for show that are zinc-washed...but for AutoXing or any sort of performance driving...Brembo blanks are the only way to fly for me.

PS. The crossdrilled or drilled brembos do come zinc-washed, but the normal blank Brembo rotor is bare steel...so it's recomended that the hats be painted or they will rust

Good to know. I have to go back and paint my drums too since they rusted right up...maybe yellow!(jkjk)

Ok I got my calipers in today...they look good but I'm not sure they both came off the same car...there is a Left and Right though...let me know what you guys think

Check the banjo bolts. 99-00 calipers were fine thread while 01-04 calipers were coarse thread.

Also, the brake lines where they connect to the body should be twi different sizes inside. You will need an adapter for 1 side
