That might have to do more w demographics. Do the old dudes who can afford a gt500 race or just pull into their assigned parking spot at their dentists office where they work and go on in?
Anything north of the standard optioned GT has always been wasted on the guy the really would drive it for its' intended purpose.
Which one of you in your late 20's to 40 has the disposable income to either make a 700.00+ a month payment, or come off of 50+ grand to drive a factory built race car.........................

Shelby, Saleen, Roush, COPO, Z-28, Z06, ZL-1 are all names/numbers that were never intended for someone w/ kids, a mortgage, and an hourly wage.
As for me, I liken it to the guy/girl that gets all gaah-gaah over a celebrity.
They're just people, that happen to make 60 million dollars over the course of the summer.

Not necessarily. Back in the day it was all about the pedigree. A purpose built, track mustang that you can still drive on the street. Nowadays it has shied away from that, but hell, if i could swing it, id get me a Shelby.
The "factory backed" race teams as a whole are kinda a joke now days in my opinion. NASCAR, for example, the race cars have d!ck squat in common w the cars they represent. Rear wheel drive Lumina....

Honestly if I could swing it I think I'd go w neither unless I had another high end car to show off. Shelby's are cool but a non car guy may look at one and think hm nice mustang w a body kit not knowing it's an $80k car. Even the non car guy would recognize a Vette as something American top shelf .
I had (past tense) the $ to buy a new Shelby, although it would have been the GT350 offering. Instead I have sunk the $ into a purpose built race car. I still have my 08' Bullitt that in N/A form puts down 325rwhp and still pulls 27 mpg highway. In all honesty, the 08' Bullitt is the perfect street car. A 500 whp street car is almost not usable. With 325 whp, I can have all the fun I need on the street and still light the hides if I want to. The real HP is saved for the drag car where it can actually be used to the fullest.
I don't care WHAT you guys are saying. 662hp is fine with me all day!
You're right but the vette would be a vette and the Shelby would be just another mustang.
