I never really hear much about the Edelbrock RPM heads, but a few people from around here have them. A guy at atco last thursday had only a typhoon intake, 70mm throttle, F cam, and the RPM heads, and he ran a 12.9 with no problem - (street tires) - They seem like a decent set of heads - I was just wondering why they are not really super popular - all I ever hear ppl talk about is the GT 40's, or the TW - Are the Edelbrock heads pretty close to the same (performance wise) as the GT 40's? Or are they rated under them...

the edelbrock heads are very good heads. edelbrock is always of top quality and heads, intake, cam combo will still get you to that 300whp mark. i am not to sure why these heads are not more popular

heres a simple combo for ya , my car 88gt stock bottom end stock cam , 1.7'rr's , rpm intake and just other simple botl on's nothing crazy .
with the older rpm heads with only 1.9 valve.

on my bald 235/60/15 street tires ive been 12.8's at more than 108mph thats enough mph for bottom 12's with a stock cam .

this is a gt car with pleanty of weight to be taken out , i love the heads and will stick with em for a long time

i put out a thread about that last week, I've had mine for 5 years and they've worked very well for me. They're a fine set of aftermarket heads with more power pontential IMO, and I'll continue to use them when I build up my 331 in the future...after a litte bit of port massaging of course.

If you look at flow numbers they are almost exactly equal to the AFR 165's, and i believe the TW's as well...they fall a little short on the exhaust side though. And, unlike the TW's you can run stock length pushrods. And you can have them for less than either the TW's, X or Z GT-40's, or AFR's....seem like a great value to me

my 2 cents

http://www.allfordmustangs.com/Detailed/630.shtml , heres a decent site i picked up a while back, and it seems to give good info out, u can check out quite a few different heads, for different engine, and such. just not sure if it has the RPM heads, if it does, then it doesnt have RPM under the tab ....

but in gerenal they are good heads, just think u can get more out of other heads. just what i think.

Edlebrock is a great company that many have forgotten about where heads are concerned. Everyone jumped on the Trick Flow and AFR bandwagon, (myself included) when they came out. Edlebrock makes very high quality parts, and has done so for years. If you buy these heads you will be very happy with them. People don't really talk about them, because the TW's and AFR's are the "in thing" right now. These heads flow a little more CFM than the Edlebrocks, but the RPM's will make great power if the combo is set up right, (which is the case with any combination of parts).

GREAT heads...no issues..pulls like a mother right to 6000..and possibly beyond. I would buy another set over any others available..based on my experience. I did have the exhaust side ported and would be shocked if I was not at or damn near 300RWHP.

I hear lots of good about them from actual owners... I hope to be one soon, although I can't get through to their tech line, i been on hold like 10 minutes, and had to go back to work - i wanted to know if edelbrock made roller rockers (1.6) and what length pushrods (and diameter i guess) are needed for the install - ive been told stock length pushrods and stock rockers WOULD WORK but better to upgrade anyway (at least the rockers)

The revised edelbrock heads are great. My friend made 323hp to the tire with them on his little off the shelf combo 306. Heads had some slight work, comp 270XE cam and a tfs street intake.

i just took a look at Edelbrock's website, i don't see anything on there about their own brand of roller rockers, but i run the comp magnum roller tip rockers on mine, and they work very well. you'd be fine running pretty much any adjustable rocker whether it's FRPP, Comp, Crane, Harland Sharp, etc. the pushrods are stock length, and diamer (roller engines 6.272" length, 5/16" diam; flat tappet 6.804" length 5/16" diam as per FRPP's website)

The Edelbrock heads with the 1.9 intake valves are great for mild NA combinations. It's important to use the smalller valve so that you maintain high port velocity. It makes for a really torquey combo that has a lot of grunt down low. For something simple that's a good choice.

comp rollers are probably some of the best for the price..also you should go hardened pushrods...they have to be 6.25". You may still want to consider going with an iron head..price is great, and so is the performance. If the heads are close to tapping your budget, then your overspending. As I mentioned before..engine swaping more often than not will kick your budget in the pants. You have to have enough cash to cover the expenses that will spring up at the last minute. Your previous threads indicate your budget is tight on this swap..plan for the best, but expect the worst.

....that's why I recommended $700 aluminum GT40's. Not a whole lot of stuff is needed to bolt those on and they work really good on a mild motor. For the same price as edelbrocks or TW's he can get an intake and heads. I guess it all depends on how heavy your wallet feels on the day that you buy everything......

all too true, i don't think really there was anything needed to install them on a stock block...did that to another friends' '90GT. Runs like a champ with an E cam and stock compression

i'd strongly think about new rockers though

Yes, i've been talked into new rockers. Now, w/ the edelbrock heads, stock length pushrods, and roller rockers, would 1.6's or 1.7's fit, i know 1.6's would, cuz thats stock height, but will the 1.7's fit??? I have ford racing chrome valve covers - and does cam lift effect this, its the E cam of .498 lift... thanks fellas, your all alright!!
I have figured that its gonna cost me 1500 dollars to get everything from my local speedshop, including head bolts, and head gaskets, pushrods, roller rockers, and the heads themselves! I just got more saving to do now - THANKS AGAIN

i believe they are based on flow and dyno numbers, but they are a very good lower cost alternative if you don't feel like dropping quite as much money. you could probably go on the FRPP website and find out all you would want to know about them, or maybe scan through either MM&FF's, or 5.0's website tech section and look for their cylinder head comparison articles, I know they did one that entailed the RPM's, Y's and X's...and their respective results and specs. The Y's can be had for $750 brand new in several ebay stores, the Eddy's are gonna run you $1,100 pretty much anyway you cut it.

and yes, for both, the pushrods req'd are stock length, and 1.7's will fit on both heads-but if you get the Y's, then either you get bolt down style rockers, or you have them machined to take screw in studs and guideplates. the only thing that makes a 1.7 rocker a 1.7 is that they actually move the pushrod cup closer to the mounting stud to effectively increase the lever ratio from lobe lift to the lift at the valve. 1.7's will give you approx 0.030" extra lift with most cams used by the 5.0 crowd...the E cam for example with 1.6's will yield 0.498" at the valve, 1.7's will give you 0.529" at the valve.

just real quick though, why not order at least some of your stuff from jegs or summit? everytime i used to try to get stuff through a speedshop they would rake you over the coals from the dealer markup...

7-Years ago I built a 302. I used the Edelbrock R.P.M. Heads with the 2.02-1.60 valves. on a .030 short block with D.S.S. Flattop Pistons,Comp Cams X-treme energy 274 hydraulic roller cam ,Edelbrock R.P.M. Intake,Edelbrock 750 c.f.m. carb,Mac 1 5/8 long tubes,M.S.D. ignition, 2 1/2" full exhaust. Crane roller rockers. The motor made 320 horsepower 310 ft/lbs. torque at the wheels in a 65 mustang fastback. The heads nor intake had no port work at all Just taken right out of the boxes and slapped right on. The motor wasn't even balanced or the block decked. I was pretty impressed with the quality of the heads considering this was a low buck motor. It made more horsepower and torque then I could even fathom.
