i have a 98 cobra and i was wondering about my rpm's. they dont seem to drop fast enough between gears. is this normal? because of this i can't go into gear very fast or i feel the gears in the tranny. if i shift from 1st to 2nd around 4000 rpm then it goes in pretty smooth.

You should be able to get smooth shifts just driving around at about 2-2.5k rpm. How does the engine sound when you shift? Might just be bad calibration. You might also have some messed up syncros which can sometimes be fixed by tranny fluid but sometimes require rebuild or replacement.
