I was thinking today if I was suppose to put the rubber boot from the stock shifter on the MGW. Not the lower shift boot that bolts to the floor but the one on the stock shifter itself. The shifter right now is exposed to dust isn't it.

Despite the beauty of a aftermarket shifter, but the boot back on. It makes it look like a job that isn't finished yet.

not the handle boot or the gold trim boot. The boot that goes on the socket part of the stock shifter...there is 3 boots on a stock shifter setup. I'm talking about the first one (the bottom one)

Sorry man, I only remember the gold trimmed rubber boot that mounts to the trans tunnel. I reinstalled that one and then the leather boot cover. I don't remember a 3rd piece, but maybe a previous owner removed it?

you took it off the stock boot and then you put it on the B&M. And you mean the one right on the shifter and not the one you bolt to the floor

Yeah, the one thats held to the outter part of the actual shifter with the wire spring clamp. It covers over the adjustable shifter stops and everything.

I wouldnt say its absolutely nessacary to have it. Do they say to install it in the directions? They may not want it there because it could affect the way the shifter performs.
I don't think it said anything but I can't see it hurting anything...........if anything it would help it. Dirt in the shifter socker won't be to good for it I wouldn't think

The MGW does not require the little boot the was on the stock shifter. The lower boot (the one with the gold braket) cover the top of the shifter.
When you opened the box the MGW came in there should have been a small rubber grommet that goes around the bottom part of the handle. The grommet is thick and has a groove cut in the middle which the lower boot fits in to in order to seal off the pivot area of the shifter to keep dirt out of it.
If the lower boot is torn like mine was you'll have to get a new one. 50resto has them relatively cheap.

the only dirt the boot your talking about and MGW says to install is dirt from inside your car. Dirt will still get in there from underneath the car and stick right in that greese
