So that it's just a little bit easier for me to work on my 5.0 in the garage. Does anybody know what the optimal size compressor would be to run tools off of? I need something that can handle moderate wrenching and not crap out after a year or two? Any brand recommendations or sizes?
Well i have a 2 gal portable one that i use around the house haha. And thats good enough to take off my rims, you take about 2 bolts out then it charges and away you go again. I could probably take off anything i wanted, i'd just have to take brakes between bolts. But i only have that because it was a gift ha. At our shop we got about a 180 gal one so i dont need a big one at the house. But if i was to buy one for the house, i'd probably go with nothing smaller then a 15 gal. I'd probably go buy a Craftsman 33 gal. Then just set it in the corner of the garage and get a few hoses. Don't buy a portable one.
i wouldnt go any less than a 35 gallon tank with a real motor on top. ive gone through 2 of the airless husky compressors over the past 3 years. my next one will be one of the 500 dollar jobs. it never fails, when you think youre getting one plenty big youll soon find out you wish you had gone bigger.
why not just get something like a cordless impact, like a makita or dewalt 18volt. it's lighter, can fit into better spaces and doesn't have that lame cord coming off of it all the time

lol that lame cord supplys your endless power, where as you have to recharge the cordless impact. Also you have run everything off air. Ever need to buff your car? Now you got a nice air comp for the buffer! Plus everything else, impact gun, drill, just everything. Air tools are the **** PERIOD.
Mine is a 5 hp with a 60 gallon tank with a home made intercooler/water separator. Just about the only air tool I don't have is a saw or gasket scraper.
I would rather use the air drill than an electric drill because you have more control and more power in a smaller package. That's true of most air tools - smaller and more power.

Word: Whatever you do, don't get an oil-less compressor like the Craftsman red ones. They are unGODLY loud. Make sure you get one with an oiled motor. I use a Craftsman 25-gallon 5 horse model that does everything I need it to. I had one of the Craftsman 33-gal oil-less models that was unbearable to use in the garage, so I exchanged it for the new one.
