Hey guys, got a tough one for you. I don't know which forum I belong to, but here's what I got. 1996 mustang 3.8 AODE, took the motor out, put in a 1992 5.0 HO . Hooked it up with 1995 GT harnesses, computer, upper intake, mass air, t-body. I used the 3.8 alternator, radiator, hoses, starter, and AODE (recently rebuilt w/ shift kit, T-loc and 3.73s in the 7.5 rear.
It actually cranks and runs! The transmission shifts real funny and o/d doesn't work, nor does the o/d cycle light on the cluster. I also have a gt cluster, here's what it does- headlight knob activates seatbelt warning light, backlights do not work, tach does not work, oil pressure is upside down. But the v-6 cluster basically works, except for the tach being wrong.
That part is nominal.
The real problem is- turn the key, let the fuel pump prime and fire it up, you can rev to 4-6K instantly, just like a mustang should. After 5 seconds of running, it goes into miss mode, has no power, misses throughout entire rpm range, bellows black smoke throught the tailpipes. Can anyone help me? I took the v-6 out for a blowed head gasket thinking the swap would be cheap. 2000 dollars later, the car still isn't right. Please Help!?

i am not sure how the 92 motor is gonna run with our 95 harness, considering that the 92 has a couple sensors etc. that our motors do not therefore it wouldn't have a harness to plug the sensor into. I know for a fact that the older stangs have a MAP sensor, and a bunch of other stuff diff. i believe you have old electronics fighting new electronics, and if you would get you an a9p computer, and an older model harness, and possibly even a v8 aod(e)? then it would be better
