Rust bubble

Ok I have the notorious rust bubble on the lip of my hood.

I took my car to a local body shop who I always use b/c they're good, and they gave me an estimate of $993 to blast and re-paint the hood.
A painted hood from Cervinis is only $850. I know fiberglass hoods have fitment issues but at the same time they can guarantee the corrosion bubbles will not come back after I drop $993 on the hood.

What do you think is the best course of action?

What about Ford? Some here have had their hoods redone under the paint warranty by just going to the dealer. My '07 I had was re-done with good results as have several locals. Don't know anyone with problems if the job is done correct.

If the pre-painted fiberglass hood does not fit, it will need reworked and painted again.

Yeah I know others have had luck on here through the dealership which pisses me off too lol... b/c when I went to the dealer they said "sorry, it's not corroded all the way through". basically told me tough **** it's gonna cost you to re-paint.

Call some different dealers....might be worth a trip to another town.

I did years ago when the problem started. Every dealer I went to told me the same thing. One dealer told me he could fix it, only to call me back and say Ford won't approve it. I guess I just kida accepted it and went about my business. But now the bubbles are flaking the paint off and i have a big white spot on my hood lip and it's killing me.

Well, that really sucks for sure.

Guess you have a decision to make now on which way you want to go, After market hood or repaint....

Unless you are really wanting the after market, I would stay stock and paint it.

It is actually caused by poor cleaning of the surface prior to paint. This caused the corrosion.

Well here the problem... I can pay 993 to re-paint and possibly have it come back. Or I can pay $850 for a painted hood, it have fitment issues (or even paint match issues) and pay another 1000 to re-paint that hood.

Or trade in the Mustang, take a hit b/c of the paint, and get something else.

Either way I'm 0-2 on luck with Ford.

I had an 03 F250 which was nothing but motor/turbo troubles. and this lack of cooperation with Ford on the paint of the Mustang.

I would have the shop you trust repaint the hood. Many have been done without any recurring problems.

In my thoughts, I would bet that there will be issues with the fiberglass.....

I have pretty large bubbles under my hood. One is on the leading edge, so you can see it with the hood closed.

I also have small ones on both doors and the trunk edge (all inside). The dealer wanted $650 to fix all of it, but they weren't gonna spray the whole hood, just blend it up I think. Ford would not fix it as I was out of warranty.

I showed them this problem about 6 months ago, and decided to wait until spring to fix it (they said they'd pay half of the $, too!).

But, I think I've changed my mind. I'm most likely trading the car this week for a new '11 GT.

Well... I traded it in for an '11 F250. Got the Scorpion.
