rust on an 02 V6

I am planning on buying a 2002 Yellow V6 Mustang but wanted to know if anyone has driven them in the snow and if so how prone to rust they are. I plan on driving it through winters and was concerned that if i did salt might cause rust to form. I can't imagine that they would rust like the 80's and early 90's mustangs but would like to know. Any tips would be appreciated.

I've driven mine through the snow quite frequently. The DoT here is notorious for throwing down tons of salt and sand when there is even a hint of snow. The key is to clean your car after riding in these conditions (especially an undercarraige wash if available). There isn't any rust on mine, other than the outside of the headers, but I think that is normal and actually a good thing.

Also, I don't think Mustangs are any more prone to rusting than other cars...

I drove my car all winter last year in St. Paul, MN. I only had problems when we got 7 inches of snow. Like it was stated though, I washed my car twice a week if I could. You will always get surface rust on any unprotected metal.

My 96 is in excellent shape, but I have taken care of it.

I own a 2002 V6 Mustang which I purchased brand new in January 2002. I have so far driven this particular car thru 5 brutal winters. The body of the car looks okay. The undercarraige looks okay too. The only things which will definitely rust is the muffler, all the suspension bolts, and any metal screws, metal bolts or metal clamps which are located underneath the car. Another thing is that salt will get caught in small crevices like underneath the doors and underneath the insides of the front and rear fenders and undercarraige. With time, rust will start to appear in these areas. There is nothing that you can do about this. Just try to spray these areas on the car really good when they get all caked up with salt. Rust is innevitable in these areas when the car is driven in the salt during the wintertime.
