Well my 03 has a couple small paint bubbles above the left rear wheel. Upon inspection, it appears something hit the lip underneath, and caused a separation between the outer quarter panel skin, and the inner tub, allowing moisture in there and causing some rot. I currently have the crust cut out, minus the lip, still need to drill the lip spot welds off, but i've cleaned and found all clean metal. Keep in mind the picture with the most rust showing is before I cleaned it all up, so don't worry, im not patching over that crust. I made the patch panel last thursday at work, and it is ready to cut to size and weld in.

Also, the passenger side sail panel above the door had a crack, so it is also off the car and going to get repaired and repainted.

The inner fender got a little thin as you can see, but its been blasted, treated, and waiting for weld through primer. Then welded and off to the paint shop!

That seems like a lot of rust! Was that sucker driven in winter?

I think it got hit by something underneath on the lip. Causing separation and allowing moisture to get in between the layers. The lip was pretty bent up

Thats a good looking patch piece. I'm sure you know this, but make sure you remove all the paint from above and the sides of the patch where you plan to weld it and tack weld it very slowly so you dont warp the surrounding area of the repair, etc, etc. I have done this a few times on various cars from start to finish, including paint. Make sure the body shop gets a good match on the paint. They should have every formula they used in that year on their computer and there will be more than one.

Thanks man. Working with metal all day has its perks. I'm doing everything up to paint. My guy is repainting the entire quarter and assured me it will match. The main thing I'm worried about is the foam they put between the inner tub and the quarter panel. Don't want to start a fire

Will do. It will be welded up early next week. Painted by hopefully the weekend, then 3.73s in the rear, then off to PowerCruise in Brainerd, MN!
