rusty water in cooling system

alright, guys, having some cooling issues.

ccrm was bad, so that was replaced. fans (both speeds) seem to be coming on at the specified temps in my tweecer, but there is a problem:

the radiator was clogged. the high-speed fan would be on, but the air was blowing cold while the temp of the coolant at the upper hose was really hot.

thermostat was also replaced.

had the radiator flushed out at a radiator shop. cooling worked after than, though a couple hours later the high fan was on, the air was blowing cool, and the temp of the coolant in the hoses was really hot.

i'm thinking all the rusty water that stayed in the block is going to clog the radiator again.

my question: is there a way to flush ALL the crap out of the block and radiator?

i'm thinking if i remove the thermostat and disconnect the lower hose at the water pump, i can flush it all out while the car is running while stickign a garden hose at the top of the radiator until the water runs clear.


thoughts? suggestions? opinions?

What about one of those Prestone back flush kits you put in the heater hose to back flush the entire system? You can get them at Walmart, AutoZone, etc. for pretty cheap.

You can get a simple kit at the parts stores that will let you hook up a hose and also a fitting that goes into the radiator neck to divert the water - I've used those several times with great success.

Alternatively it is like you say - shove in the hose at full blast and watch it come out the other side.

note to self and all stangers:

DO NOT USE RADIATOR STOP LEAK!!!!!#@$%#^$

i did not do this myself, but the explorer owner who had the engine before me did and i'd like to give a big flying F$%K YOU to them, hehe.

it's no coincidence that i noticed this sludge after the first test drive w/ the new engine in.


anyhow, flushed the system out (still running as i type--has been for over a half hour) and the water is clear now. my overflow tank was full of this, what literally looks like, SH1T.

i'll post pics in a few...
